Until May 30 we had been using QB Desktop Pro 2021 and QB Payroll with no problems
QB has forced us to change to online by stopping the 2021 Desktop Pro support as of May 31, 2024.
Due to QB issues in migrating we currently have 2024 Enterprise Desktop Trial version which they gave us because we could not get online QB’s to upload – see comments below.
On May 30, 2024 we talked with a QB agent and switched to QB Online as that is what the agent recommended. The entire time we stated we wanted to keep desktop but of course they said that was not an option.
On May 30 we then tried (for OVER 3 hours on the phone with QB) to switch to QB on line WITH the QB agent – they screen share with our computer – they could not get it to migrate to online. They told us there was a QB problem on the QB side and it should be resolved in few hours and would should try again the next day.
On May 31 we called QB again and was on the phone for OVER 7.5 hours (multiple phone calls). The agent tried MANY options to migrate with 2 different computers (one with QB and one without QB) – eventually there was an error “401” - and the agent “said’ the error was related to migrating payroll. The QB agent said the QB team was working on it and it would be resolved by June 6. I should try again after June 6. Then, so we could operate our business while QB resolved its problem over the next week they said we (QB agent) would download Enterprise 2024 Desktop trial version. The agent then directed us thru screen share on how to download 2024 desk top. …..
On June 7 we again called QB and was on the phone for OVER 3.5 hours (multiple phone calls and screen share). The agent tried multiple ways to migrate Enterprise Trial and also tried to migrate 2021 QB Desktop without success. Then he told us that he and all QB agents received notice that there was maintenance ongoing by QB and ALL migration had been stopped & delayed for 2 hours.
We have spent OVER 7.5 hours on the phone with QB agents and the migration team – we STILL do not have what we paid for on May 30 2024. Each time the QB agent tries many different options and “workaround” options but NONE of them have worked. Eventually the agent gives us some reason like the error message will be resolved by QB or QB is doing maintenance so we need to call back after QB has finished fixing THEIR issue.
We need to talk to an experienced QB agent that is not just going to spend hours “trying” various options and then give some excuse to put us off….

You can still purchase QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus + Enhanced Payroll. They will support them until 2027. You should stay with QB Desktop.
