Account delted in error

Welcome to the Community and thanks for choosing QuickBooks Online (QBO) for your business needs, @PBN1

It is possible to recover deleted accounts from the Chart of Accounts. I'm here to teach you in just a few clicks. We still have the option to restore the deleted accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙, then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Select the Gear icon ⚙ next to the printer icon. Then choose to Include inactive.
  3. Find the accounts you want to use again, then select Make active.

Moreover, the ability to delete an account has not been added to QBO because we want to ensure that all of your transactions and reports are complete. Making accounts inactive is the only way to keep them in your company's file and can be restored anytime.

Please feel free to come back in if you have further questions about deleting accounts in QuickBooks Online, I’m always here to answer them for you.

Thank you for clarifying your concern, @PBN1.

Since the account was totally deleted, you can retrieve it by recreating it. I'll guide you through the steps.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Click the Gear icon, then select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Choose New
  4. Select the necessary information for the account.
  5. Click Save and Close.

Please know that QuickBooks only allows you delete accounts that didn't have transactions. Once you've created a transaction using the account, you can no longer delete it. Instead, you can make it inactive.

You may also want to manage default and special accounts in your chart of accounts. This article will help you find out which default or special accounts can be deleted, edited, or merged: Manage default and special accounts in your QuickBooks Online chart of accounts.
