I have a client that hired me to help with accounting and bookkeeping. And although I have explained the benefits of using QuickBooks, I have a strong feeling that she wants to stay old school, use checkbooks and utilize excel instead. Her services are completely customizable so I am unable to help her with invoices. Her response time on emails or text messages are a day late.

The problem: she wants to turn everything over to me but I'm not sure how to better provide services.

Any ideas?

Does she prefer to use QB Online or QB Desktop? If she prefers to "hold" something, QB Desktop is a better choice. She can still purchase a one-time license for QB Desktop 2021 if needed.

I don't think she wants to use QuickBooks. Plus she is mobile all the time. No time to use QuickBooks desktop.

@DejaAz

Just to clarify, does she want you to use Excel to keep her books or does she want to record items in Excel and then send them to you?

If she wants you to use Excel, I would not take on a client that would not allow you to use QuickBooks, or some accounting software - way too many potential mistakes.  And, you have to wonder what the motivation is for someone to discourage that.

If she wants to record expenses in a checkbook register and use Excel for income/other, that's obviously quite normal.  It's difficult to imagine a scenario where you couldn't use QB to customize invoices for just about any service.

"The problem: she wants to turn everything over to me but I'm not sure how to better provide services."

This doesn't sound like a problem, this sounds like a great opportunity.

She wants to turn everything over to me. She wants me to manage everything using excel. I guess because I haven't manage business finances and reports through excel is why it's difficult for me. But I think I might show her different ways to manage her finances and let her choose which route she feels is beneficial and then tell her the requirements for each. Thank you for your assistance.

@DejaAz  A lot of people that are "Old School" are intimidated by QB.  And let's face it, it's not exactly user friendly.  Maybe your idea to present her with other options will help. There's got to be a happy medium.

Just remember, QB is intimidating to those that don't, or have never used it.  It won't be easy for them to just "figure out".  And a lot of times, they will fight with having to learn something new.

Good luck.
