Anyone else having issues with the mobile app automatically adding tax to every line item?

Anytime I need to open an invoice, or even create one, the app will automatically add tax to every single line item and it will not accept an override, and we will not turn off tax no matter what I try.

Even if the invoice is created on a computer, and tax is correct on that invoice if I open it up on the app to try to email it, it adds tax to the invoice.

Anyone else having issues with the mobile app automatically adding tax to every line item?

Let's perform troubleshooting steps to fix the issue, User.

We can refresh your mobile app's data to ensure that the information from the regular browser is syncing with the mobile app. At the same time, it resets the application. Please know that the steps may differ depending on the operating system that you're using.

For Andriod:

  1. From the More Options ⋮, select Settings.
  2. Tick Refresh Data, then choose Yes.

For IOS:

  1. From the Menu ☰, select Help & Feedback.
  2. Click Refresh Data, and then select Refresh.

You can also do it in your device settings. Here's how:

For Andriod:

  1. Go to your device's Settings, and select Apps (varies by device).
  2. Choose the QuickBooks app from the list, and then pick Storage.
  3. Hit clear data.

For IOS:

  1. Go to your device's Settings, and select Setting General iPhone Storage.
  2. Choose an app that's taking up a lot of space.
  3. To free up the storage without deleting the documents and data for the app, select the Offload App.

However, if the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app to resolve unexpected behavior on mobile devices, and ensure updated security settings are downloaded.

Anyone else having issues with the mobile app automatically adding tax to every line item?

The root cause is not my phone.  I know this because I have two different Android devices, both two different brands, both two different Android OS versions.

Anyone else having issues with the mobile app automatically adding tax to every line item?

Thank you for the additional details, user48542. I understand you're having an issue where some tax-exempt items have become taxable when invoices are created or viewed in the QuickBooks Online mobile app.

I checked our system and there are no current known alerts or reports regarding sales tax in the QBO mobile app the moment.

Since this appears to be something specific to your mobile app, I would recommend reaching out to our phone or chat support teams for further troubleshooting and investigation.

Our support agents can take a closer look at the invoices, mobile app settings, and tax configurations in your account.

Please reach out to our phone or chat support using the contact information here: QuickBooks Online Support.

Let me share these articles with more information on how QuickBooks Online calculates and handles sales tax in case you need more resources:

Anyone else having issues with the mobile app automatically adding tax to every line item?

It's honestly really frustrating when you guys give answers that make no sense.  I got a cookie cutter response the first time and I don't know what this response is the second time.  Is it supposed to be a community support page not wear support reaches out to me and gives me Cookie cutter answers.

Obviously this is not a setting in my company settings, if it's not doing it when I'm on the web version.

Additionally, I would be inclined to do this however, when bypassing the tax information, or overriding the tax information on the invoice does not work on the app, it leads me to believe this is a glitch inside of QuickBooks and not anything else.  My post was not to get support from quickbooks, it was to see if others were experiencing the same issue.

Same problem here.  I have the exact same thing when creating invoices.

Did you find a resolution?

It started working properly on its own about a month ago.  Not sure if there was an app update or not.  But I just created a practice invoice and I'm able to now remove a line item as taxable, and it removes the tax, and then actually keeps it that way upon saving

Anyone else having issues with the mobile app automatically adding tax to every line item?

I understand the challenges you're experiencing with the mobile app automatically adding tax to every line item when creating an invoice, Matt. I'm here to share insights about this.

When QuickBooks has unexpected behavior, let's try resetting the app data to clear the cache and refresh it into its default state. Before doing so, let's ensure that your QuickBooks Online (QBO) mobile app is updated as well as your phone's operating system (OS). It helps your application work continuously without interruptions.

Here's how:

For iOS devices:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Select Reset App Data.
  3. Click OK.

For Android devices:

  1. In your QBO mobile app, select the Gear icon.
  2. Choose the Refresh Data menu.
  3. Click Yes.

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Customer Care Team. They have tools that can check your account and determine the leading cause of the issue. You can follow the steps below on how to reach them:

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner.
  2. Type in Talk to a human, then press Enter.
  3. Select Contact Support Team.
  4. Type again Talk to a human and click Contact Support Team.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us.

If you have any queries about recording sales and other transactions, please do not hesitate to share them below. I would be more than happy to help you. I hope you have a wonderful day.

So we see this happens on multiple versions now.  A motorola, a samsung and now we see an Apple device.  This is obviously a bug in the app.
