Bank accounts

My bank was bought out and merged into a different bank. My bank name and routing number changed but my account number stayed the same. Do I have to create a new banking account in QB and somehow transfer the funds from the old account to the new account? Or just change the name and routing number on the old account?

Greetings, @Bison95

Welcome to the Community. I'd be more than happy to help answer your question about changing info within your bank account.

You can change your login and other info for the bank account you use with QuickBooks Desktop. Just turn off your Bank Feeds to make any changes. Then set up your Bank Feeds again.

  1. Disconnect Bank Feeds for your account.
  2. Make your changes.
  3. Set up bank feeds for your account.

Review this guide for additional details: Set up or edit bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QBDT

I'm only a post away if you have any other questions. Have a wonderful day!

Candise - Thank you for the reply- however, I don't use bank feeds at all. I only use one business checking account. My question is how do I change over to the new bank name and routing number? Are you saying simply change the name and routing number on the current bank account?

Bank accounts

I appreciate you clarifying, @Bison95. Let me step in and share ways to handle a merged bank account in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

If you want to utilize the same register, you can update the bank information in the Chart of Accounts. To do that:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right-click on the bank you want to update, then click Edit
  3. Change the Account Name and Routing Number as necessary.
  4. Click Save & Close.

However, if you want to track the transactions into a new bank, you may create a new one and merge it with the old account. Here's how:

  1. Go to Lists and copy the name of the bank account you want to keep.
  2. Right-click the account you don't want to use, then click Edit.
  3. Paste the name you copied and click Save & Close
  4. Select Yes when you're prompted to merge the accounts.

Moreover, I recommend setting up online banking to skip the inconvenience of downloading and categorizing bank transactions manually.

Feel free to get in touch whenever you have additional concerns about your bank accounts in QBDT. I'm always available to provide further assistance. Take care, and have a good one.
