If your company is exempt from sales tax, you may need to contact us and send a copy of your tax-exempt certification. This allows Intuit to update your account as Sales Tax Exempt.
Once the required document is sent, it'll take at least 5 to 10 business days to get your account Sales Tax Exempt. After the update, you'll no longer see sales tax charges on future orders or service fees.

When I switched to QBO from Desktop, I was told that all I had to do was set up my company as a nonprofit and we would not be charged - that was not true. Although, I had been tax exempt with Intuit for 20 years, I still had to send a certificate. It still remains to be seen if it is fixed.
