can I delete a bill that has not been reconciled without it changing anything

Yes, @theislandschool. You can delete a bill in QuickBooks Online (QBO) that you haven't reconciled. Below, we'll provide some information to help you maintain the accuracy of your company file.

Please know an unreconciled bill does not affect your bank reconciliation or final financial statements in QBO. As such, you can delete it without any problems. Before deleting, you'll want to ensure no payments are made to the vendor to prevent inaccuracy in your recordings. It's also important to note that this action will remove the bill from your expenses and no longer appear in your reports. When you're ready, here's how to delete the bill:

  1. Go to Expenses, then select Expenses.
  2. Locate the bill to delete.
  3. In the Action column, select Delete from the dropdown menu.
  4. When prompted, click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the bill.

For more details, please see this article: Delete a bill.

On the other hand, you can utilize the audit log feature in QBO if you think you've deleted an important transaction. This way, you can collect the details and use them to recreate the transaction. Refer to this page for more information: Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online.
