Can I separate out one of my three companies from my login?

When I log in to quickbooks online, three companies are available to me. I want one of them to have its own different log in. How do I separate it from the others?

Hi, @also brien.

 

Welcome to the Community, @also brien. I'm here to help ensure that you can change one of your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company's login information.

 

You need to create a different Intuit account for this matter. This new account will be the Primary Admin of the QBO company you want to separate.

 

Here's how:

 

Step 1: Invite your new user

  1. Select Settings ⚙, then Manage users. If you can’t select this, you don’t have permission to manage other users. Contact an admin user for help.
  2. Select Add user.
  3. Select the user type you want to create.  More options will appear on the screen depending on the user type you select.
  4. Enter your new user’s name and email address, then select Save.

Step 2: Have the new user accept the invite

Your new user will quickly get an email from quickbooks-email@intuit.com. It has your business’s name and a message that includes “Ready to get started? Let's go!"

 

Step 3: Transfer Primary Admin to the Company Admin

You can transfer the primary admin role to an existing QuickBooks user. Or, if the person isn’t a QuickBooks user yet, you can add them as a new user. Then, transfer the primary admin role to them after they’re added.

 

Here’s how to transfer the role to an existing user:

  1. Select Settings ⚙.
  2. Select Manage users.
  3. Find the user you want to make the primary admin.
  4. In the Role column, make sure they are listed as Admin. If they’re not, select Edit to change their role to admin.
  5. Select the small arrow ▼ in the Action section. Then, select Make primary admin.
  6. For security, we send a verification code to the phone number or email on file for your account. When you receive the verification code, enter it and select Continue.
  7. Select Make primary admin again to confirm the change.
  8. Sign out of QuickBooks.

When the user gets the invitation email, ask them to click the link and accept the invitation to be the primary admin. The new Master Admin should delete the old Master admin.

 

Note: If you’re using QuickBooks Online Simple Start, contact us to transfer the primary admin.
