Can I use two Quickbooks Online(test and production) with one EIN and what are the caveats?

I'm wondering if I can use 2 Quickbooks Online(one for testing, one for production) with one EIN.

We are planning to run our own order management system and are building a 3rd party app to integrate with Quickbooks using Quickbooks' API. I want to use the test version to check if the data from our own sales system is connected well, and the production version for actual operation.

We are using sandbox internally, but we can't check the connection with the actual payment data in the sandbox environment, so we are planning to use the method mentioned above.

I would like to know if this is possible.

Thank you.

Let us share some details about using the same Employer Identification Number for your QuickBooks Online (QBO) accounts, Hypermin.

Yes, you can use the same Employer Identification Number (EIN) for multiple QuickBooks Online (QBO) accounts. However, the system will show a notification that your tax ID is associated with another active account if you set up a payroll for both accounts. This is due to tax payment and filing concerns. You can check out this article to take a test drive of QBO by using our sample company demo: Test drive QuickBooks Online.

On the other hand, we have a dedicated forum for handling API concerns in QBO where developers can discuss programming or syncing-related issues and provide accurate solutions. Let me guide you through the most effective way to post a question on the Intuit Developer page:

  1. Go to the Intuit Developer Support website.
  2. Choose your QuickBooks product.
  3. Click on Ask a Question.
  4. When prompted to sign in, log in to your Intuit account.
  5. Enter a short description of your concern and click Ask.

When opening Sandboxes and QBO firms, we'll need to do the following:

  • Use brands of browsers, one for your sandbox company and one for the QuickBooks Online company.
  • Use private or incognito browsers.
  • You can switch between companies directly from the QBO UI. In the open sandbox company or QuickBooks, click the Gear icon and then Switch Company.

You can join other developers on the Intuit Developer community forum. Also, you may want to utilize the helpful API topics on the Intuit Developer page. To do this, go to the API Docs & Tools menu, select QuickBooks Online, and choose API Explorer

Lastly, gain peace of mind knowing that our QuickBooks Live Experts are available to support you. They bring clarity to your operations and ensure your transition to QBO is hassle-free and accurate. Explore them now to streamline your financial processes and ensure nothing gets overlooked.

The Community always has your back if there's anything else you need in setting up a QBO account or managing your business's growth. We're always ready to help. Take care, and have a great day, Hypermin.
