Creating a Subaccount

Hello,

May someone please assist me in going through the steps of opening a subaccount in the chart of accounts page. I want to be able to open a subaccount for each of my clients listed under Revenues, however I do not have permission to as I'm not an Admin.

My goal is to create subaccounts per each client so that I can create project code identifiers and open each project code as an account. A step-by-step screen shot instruction would be great! Attached is a screen shot of Chart of Accounts in QuickBooks.

Example:

4000 REVENUES

410010 West Oaks Wireless - Client

                    4100011 SFO015 - subaccount

                     4100012 SFO016 - Subaccount

  1. From your chart of accounts, right-click on any account.
  2. Select New
  3. Make sure to select Income account and then press Continue
  4. On the next screen, select the Subaccount of box and select which account it will be a subaccount of from the drop-down
  5. Last, just hit save and close

Creating a Subaccount

Steven C,

Thanks. This information is very informative. Last question, can each subaccount keep track of its own funds, if so how would I be able to make sure that project funds go under the right subaccount or project code.

thanks again,

Creating a Subaccount

Thank you for getting back here, @Yannick M.

Let me share some information about subaccounts in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Creating subaccounts can break down your expenses, income, and in details. For the project, if you use an invoice, make sure the items are linked to the sub-account. You can follow these steps below to check:

  1. Go to the menu tab and select the Accountant.
  2. Select the Chart of Accounts.
  3. From there, you can look for the account name or number in the search box.
  4. Once located, you can double click the account to check the transaction in the subaccount.

For future reference, you can check this article: Create, edit, or delete account in QuickBooks Desktop.
