Customer subaccounts

Recently switch from desk top to online. We have customers that we do multiple jobs for, so I have a main customer account with several subaccounts. I want to make the subaccounts inactive when the jobs are completed. Cant seem to do that in online, it only lets me make the customer inactive. I think it has something to do with online where subaccounts are projects. Can someone help me with this?

Thank you for sharing detailed information about your query regarding deactivating subaccounts in QuickBooks Online, pstodman.

I'll provide some insights into this matter.

Currently, you cannot deactivate a customer or subaccounts if they are associated with a project. You need to remove any projects linked to the customer before deactivating them.

In addition, you may also find valuable information in this article, which delves into tracking your projects' income, expenses, timesheets, and labor costs: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by project in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you have other concerns with this matter. It's always my pleasure to assist. Take the best care!

Ok, so I see that I can create a customer and then make the customer a sub customer of the parent customer. That way when that job is done I can make it inactive (just like in desktop). But when I migrated from DT it brought in all my subcustomers as projects, now I understand that I can't make a project inactive.

I would like to use the tracking abilities of projects, but I just can't understand why QB doesnt allow the project to become inactive after completion. In my business I may have a parent customer with 50 or more projects over the years, that would be way to many with everything else to leave active.

Is there a workaround to this? or do you expect QB will work on resolving this?

Hi there, pstodman. Let me share some insights regarding the matter at hand.

If the status of the project has already been completed, you don't need to make it inactive. Instead, you can simply mark it as completed. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Go to the Projects
  2. Look for the Action section and click the vertical ellipsis icon.
  3. Hit the option Mark as completed
