Our IT consultants were doing an upgrade/rebuild and our QB was corrupted. They tried to fix this for several days while new activity was being posted. Eventually, we cut them off and had them revert to the "pre-upgrade" file and a separate file that has the bad base data, but 5 days worth of current data.
There are thousands of sales orders and invoices within those 5 days along with cash receipts and AP transactions. Additionally, there are non-accounting related changes (i.e. a date or note on a file) that need to be captured. They/we contacted QB Pro Support and they said they could export the data out for those 5 days and help us merge it into the other file. We are now being told that QB doesn't do that and we need to use 3rd party software.
This solution seems illogical as the file and program we have has no customization nor any special bolt-ons that aren't through QB API processes.
Has anyone ever dealt with something similar and, if so, what was the solution or how can we export/download the transactions ourselves and be sure that we have captured ALL of the activity in those 5 days?
Let me guide you on you can import and export data, DanStevenson.
We have several ways on how you can export and import information in QuickBooks Desktop. You can import things like bank transactions, accountant’s changes, general journal entries, and batch transactions. You can also import your customers and vendors.
Apart from this, you can import transactions using IIF files but you can't export them from QuickBooks. To give you more specific ways on how to do it, go through this article for your guide: Import And Export Data In QuickBooks Desktop. I need a little explanation on your case. You said your IT consultant was trying to fix your main company file and yet at the same time you were still recording new transactions for the last 5 days on the second business file. Why don't you just use the second company file with the latest transactions to date?
You can migrate data between company files by using IIF feature. If you are not familiar with it, you can utilize a 3rd party migration tool.
