FORCED subscriptions?

I installed QB's 2014 on my former employer's computer.  All he uses is the check register and prints a financial report at the end of the year "by class" as he has a couple of rental properties.  I upgraded him from QB's 2008. He is 80 years old. He has maybe 25 transactions per month.  He doesn't need anything else.  I loaded the program and it was working fine for him, but then he got an update notice.  He didn't update.  Then he got a notice that he could open the program 2 more times and then he would have to update.  Again he didn't update but finally it wouldn't open unless he did the update and following the update then his program would not open.  I called support and was told that the program was no longer supported and it had been disabled and they would not help me.  So don't even try to convince me that you don't do that!!! I know you do. I agree with everyone else.  It should be illegal for you to make it so we can't even open our own file.

FORCED subscriptions?

I had to do the same thing for my QB 2021 Desktop.  I had to pay to keep using it.  Plus payroll is over 450 and then they raised the "per check" fee to $5.00 per check (you only get to create 1 paycheck for the $450 plus fee and any additional are $5.00 each)  I only get $50.00 per month for creating the checks. I am definitely going in the hole.  This is my last year. QB's started out as software for the little guy and now they have forgotten who made them so successful. Seriously sad.

I also think this an unethical practice. The fact that I can not open the QB software just to see my information I have put in for over 20 years is unfair. It is my information, I own it , not QB. I would be added to your suit.

The fee I was told was $546 to be able to even see my information

FORCED subscriptions?

It seems renews are different prices, which annoys me, it is underhanded. I can't even open the software I have paid for over the years!

@niftyneedle

Did you have the license for QB Desktop 2022? You can use the trial version for QB Desktop 2022 Enterprise or 2023 Enterprise to open your file for 30 days if required.

FORCED subscriptions?

I am 77 years old and have kept all personal finances in OB since 2008, it has  been used by my tax person to prepare my taxes. Then suddenly there was a demand for a payment of $549. I am retired, with only an additional $251 to Social Security. This is unreasonable and unethical. It just seems they are too good to service the average person without robbing them.
