Has anyone figured out a way to build a report that shows a detailed list (or summary) of the non-taxed items on a monthly report?

When filing our taxes, there is a distinction between non-taxable services (labor) and non-taxable product sales. However, the Tax Liability Report only shows what is being taxed, it does not show a breakdown of what is NOT being taxed. I need to be able to submit that information to the state and the county. Can you please help?

Welcome back to QuickBooks Community, Yoda Call. I'll share steps to ensure you'll be able to build a report that shows a detailed list of the non-taxed items on a monthly report.

I suggest running and customizing the Sales by Product/Services Detail report. This will show the transaction type, items and taxable columns in order to display all nox-taxable transactions. Then, please know that the item marked Yes is taxable, while the entry marked Black is not.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Reports menu on the left panel.
  2. Choose Sales by Product/Services Detail on the search bar.
  3. Click the Customize button.
  4. Choose a specific month or date in the Report period drop-down list.
  5. Click the Change columns link and checkmark the Taxable box, Transaction type, and Product/Services.
  6. Go to the Filter drop-down arrow and select the Product/Service, Transaction Type. Then, choose All.
  7. Click Run report.

Additionally, you also have the option to create a specific report in QuickBooks Online to show all non-taxable sales within a specific date. You can click this article on how to perform the process: Create a Non-Taxable sales report in QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, you may also open this article to view a table list that contains various reports that are available for your version of QuickBooks Online: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. However, I need a monthly sale report that lists all products & services that did NOT receive tax. The only non-taxable things that I can report on are those marked as such when creating the product. When we are reselling a taxable product to a wholesale customer, we have to manually take the tax off of the ticket. It is those items that I am not able to build a report for...taxable products that are marked, by transaction, non-taxable for resale purposes.

Hello Yoda Call!

Thanks for the reply. Let me further assist you in running the non-taxable sales report.

I will also suggest the Sales by Product/Services Detail report. You can follow the steps shared by ChristieAnn. Just make sure to select the right period.

Although this report shows both taxable and non, you can export it to an Excel file. From there, you can sort the data to exclude the taxable items. Simply click the Export button and select Export to Excel.

You can also pull up and customize the Taxable Sales Detail report. From the Group by drop-down, select Product/Service. You can follow the steps in this article: Create a Non-Taxable sales report in QuickBooks Online.

I also added this link: Run reports in QuickBooks Online. This will explain more on how to run, customize, and save financial reports.

We're always here if you need more help with reports. Thank you!
