I want to be a bookkeeper and am still learning QuickBooks. I wanted practice QuickBooks Online doing my own book using “Your Book”, but I messed up. Is there anyway I can delete everything and restart “Your Book”?

How can I start over “Your Books”?

Hello there, Kayo1221. Yes, there is a way to start your book from scratch.

For QuickBooks Online account, we can start over your book by totally deleting your data or canceling your account. If it is 60 days old or older, we can cancel your account. Then, create a new company. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account and go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. In the  Billing & Subscription tab, click Cancel or Cancel trial.
  4. Hit Continue to cancel.
  5. Answer the short survey, and select Confirm cancel.

Create a new company:

  1. Sign up for QuickBooks Online. Go to this link: QuickBooks Online Plans.
  2. Scroll down and double-check the region.
  3. Choose your desired plan.
  4. Enter your user ID and password. Note: You can use the same user ID and password as before.

On the other hand, if your book is less than 60 days old, we can reset your company data. The steps below will guide you thoroughly on how to do it.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Edit the URL on the address bar. remove everything after app/and enter purgecompany. For example: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany
  3. Click Yes to confirm the action.
  4. On the next page, select Wipe data.

If you're currently using QuickBooks Online Accountant, we may consider importing a blank QuickBooks Desktop file to start over: Refer to this article for more information: Start over in QuickBooks. You can also sign up for a new one using a different credential.

That's it. I've gathered two resources that contain a lot of information about recording transactions and other details within QBO. Feel free to use these references for tips and guides:

Enjoy learning with QuickBooks! If you have more concerns while doing tasks within your book, don't hesitate to post them anytime. I'll be happy to help you more. Take care always.

How can I start over “Your Books”?

I'm here to help you with starting over with new books in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @Kayo1221

Currently, there is no option to archive your books if you don't have a subscription. If you have availed of our trial version previously, you may need to cancel the current account and then create a new one.

Please take note not to re-subscribe to the canceled account. The data will still be available to the account for 365 days after the cancelation date.

Refer to these articles for more information about deleting your account and starting over with new books in QBO and how your data will be available after resubscribing to the account:

Let me guide you in creating this new account under the same email address:

  1. Go to the QuickBooks pricing page and select the subscription option you want.
  2. On the Create an Intuit account page, click on the Sign in button beside the Adding a company to an existing account? link.
  3. Follow the prompts to finish creating this account.

See this article for more information about creating a new company and how to switch between them: Create or add another company file to QuickBooks Online.
