How do I change the order of classes in reports and lists?

After migrating from QBD to QBO I realize my classes are listed in a different order than I am used to. Many of our accounting and budget reports (complex Excel documents) match the previous class order. Now, all financial reports produced by the website are out of order, which means any time I'm comparing internal reports with quickbooks reports it will take much longer. Does anyone know how to change the order in the report or the list itself?

How do I change the order of classes in reports and lists?

Hi there, riverside3.

Let me share some information on what we can do to modify the order of classes in reports and lists in QBO.

Before that, I’d like to share a few details about what would happen to your data after converted them from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Each of these products has different availability of features, which causing reports and lists to not match accordingly when bringing them to QB. To gather more information about it, please consider checking this article: What data don't convert when you migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Online reports can be sorted as by class. We can use the Profit and Loss report as an example and sort this by class. Please see the steps below on how to do it:

  1. Go to Reports on the left panel.
  2. Enter Profit and Loss in the search box.
  3. Click the Display columns by drop-down arrow. Then, select Classes.
  4. Click the Sort drop-down arrow. Then, arrange it according to your needs.
    • Default (alphabetical order)
    • Total in ascending order
    • Total in descending order
  5. Make sure the dates are set to your desired period.
  6. Then, Run report.

If you generate the Class Lists report in QBO, you can sort it by default, Create Date, Create by, Last modified, and modified by.

If you want to customize reports, you can check this article to gather more details on how to do it in QBO: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have other questions about transferred data in QuickBooks. I hope you're good. Take care!

How do I change the order of classes in reports and lists?

Hi, thanks but that doesn't answer my question. I don't want to convert them (as the conversion is done) but want to change the order of my classes now, in QBO.

I would prefer to make a permanent change to the order, but if that's not possible a change in the report itself will do.

How do I change the order of classes in reports and lists?

I'm a new QB Online Advanced user who experienced the same issue after migrating from Desktop.  I had to assign numbers ("1000-, 2001, 2002-, etc.") to each class so they would appear in the right order on my profit and loss reports.  I hope you fund this helpful.
