How do you make a local backup file of QBO?

There is no concept of "file" in cloud-based accounting apps. You can only export data to XLS/CSV or use a backup restore app.

How do you make a local backup file of QBO?

I understand how important it is to store a backup copy of your QuickBooks Online data, vfwpost10097-gma. I'm here to share some insights.

As stated by our all-star member, creating a backup copy is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. Not to worry, automatic backups are performed in the program every night with the same level of security used by financial institutions. For more details, please see this article: Do I Need to Save my Data with QuickBooks Online?.

However, you can export your reports and lists from QuickBooks Online and store them on your local hard drive. To do this, I'd suggest following these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Tools, select Export Data.
  3. Select the reason why you're exporting, then click on Continue.
  4. On the Reports tab, set the date range.
  5. On the List tab, select the data you'd like to export.
  6. Add or remove items from the Reports and Lists tabs by toggling the slider.
  7. Once done, select Export to Excel.

Exported reports will include the data from posting transactions such as invoices, receipts, bills, balances, and so on. If you'd like to export non-posting information and attachments, I'd recommend checking out this article: Export Reports, Lists, and other Data from QuickBooks Online.

If you're using the Advanced version, you can back up your company file using the Online Backup and Restore feature. You can check out this article to learn how: Make a Copy of your Company (formerly ChronoBooks).

Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you learn more about how QuickBooks Online prioritizes the safety of your data. This way, you can feel at ease while working on your file: Security.

I'm only a few clicks away if you need assistance with your other QuickBooks tasks, vfwpost10097-gma. It's always my pleasure to help you out again.
