Some reports are differently treated when generated in different views, BookemDanO. Allow me to discuss this matter for clarification.
Before we begin, can you please add more details regarding your concern? What specific product/service detail report are you referring to? This information can help us identify the most relevant information to address your queries.
If you run the Purchase by Product/Service Detail and Sales Product/Service Detail, the data will match when you switch between the Classic and Modern View. In this case, you'll want to ensure your reports are customized similarly. It should have the same Report period, Accounting method, and Filters.
For more information, please review these materials:
On the other hand, items are presented differently in the Unbilled Charges report when run in the Classic and Modern view. In the Modern view, items posted in an income account are shown as positive amounts. Otherwise, they'll reflect as negative numbers. In the Classic view, all items are posted as positive regardless of the accounts. This is why the amounts in your reports don't match.
Moreover, you might want to memorize your report to save its current customization setting for future use. You can also send it on a recurring schedule via email if necessary.

Hi, thanks for responding.
The "Sales by Product/Service Detail" is the report I'm referring to. If I do the exact same filters on a specific project the totals are different when using classic view vs modern view. Some expenses come out as negative but these still do not account for all the differences. The modern view filter set up is super confusing: "equals, not equals, empty"?? Maybe for accountants this is an improvement but not for me as typical small business owner trying to get a simple report.
Thank you for your response, Dan. I'd like to provide some clarification regarding the modern view filter setup and the issue with the classic and modern view reports not matching.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), the Equals filter in a report displays transactions that exactly match the specified criteria, while the Not Equals filter excludes transactions that match the specified criteria, showing all others. Additionally, the Is Empty filter shows transactions or data entries with no value or that are blank in the specified field, whereas the Is Not Empty filter shows transactions or data entries with a value or that are not blank in the specified field.

I have done what you suggested and been on the phone with QBO about times, each time for over 45 mins, the last was for approx. 1 hour and 45 mins. Each time I have gone through with them step by step showing them that with the exact same filters classic view and modern view reports do not match up. Each time I have been given a case number that was no help whatsoever during the follow up call. I was told that the only way they can try to solve this issue was with me on the phone and they cant work on this with me being on the phone which I find makes no common sense. I think there is flaw in the programming that they do not have the ability to deal with or choose not to. On the various modern view filter options you may have mentioned some tutorial options but I can't go back and look without exiting here, can you direct me to more info on this? I still don't see the purpose in these equal, empty etc. filters.
I see how challenging this has been on your part, Dan. Contacting support and not achieving the goal.
Let me chime in on this thread and add some info about the report display features. Then, I'll direct you to the best possible help.
I'd like to ask if you can share a screenshot displaying the totality of the report and the filters of both views. Also, ensure to avoid showing your personal information.
You can achieve this by signing in to your account using different browsers simultaneously to compare the data of both reports.
Please know that the purpose of the Equal section and other filters is to help you specify the data you want to see in the report.
If you want to learn more about the different displays and filters of the Modern View reports, you can check this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online using Modern View.
In the meantime, I suggest routing back to the Care Team and performing a screen sharing to highlight where the issue originated and resolve this.
