Buy nowGlad to see you here, @rschafbuch-knowm. I’ve come to share an update for you about detail types in QuickBooks.
As part of the QuickBooks Online rolled-out updates, creating new detail types isn’t now possible. When you add a new account to the chart of accounts, the account type you select will determine the option you have available in the detail type field.
After you select your account type, you can choose a detail type from the list that suit the transactions you want to track. Just check the description to make sure it’s what you need. If you don’t find one that fits, select the closest match. Please know that detail types don’t impact the actual accounting portion of your books.
These resources will provide you depth insights about using detail types in your chart of accounts and how it shows up on your tax forms:
I’ll be here anytime to help if you have any other concerns or questions besides creating new detail types. Just add them to your reply below. Have a good one!

Additional details about adding accounts and business expenses are also discussed in these articles:
However, we would still recommend reaching out to your accountant for additional advice on this matter.
Allow me to add these articles as well for more guidance when working with your Chart of Accounts in QBO:
