I previewed an update to our invoice format, and the QBO fake data included an "online convenience fee" under the subtotal. How do I set this up?

The lines at the bottom in the QBO example invoice under SUBTOTAL are: discount 2%, tax 8.25%, shipping, total, online convenience fee, total of new charges, and balance due. This is much better than the manual workaround to add as a service item in the body of the items purchased. I can't find any resource on how to do this though. Assuming it's new functionality...

Including an online convenience fee automatically can be a great option, and I'll be happy to assist you in submitting this feature request to our product engineers.

To begin with, the Online Convenience Fee line item visible in the legacy invoice template is a feature from earlier versions of QuickBooks Online (QBO). This feature was part of a Beta program but was phased out in 2022 as we transitioned to the new invoice experience. This update was made to enhance overall functionality and provide a more seamless and dependable invoicing system.

In the preview, customers can see the legacy template for those who prefer the older format. However, please note that the Online Convenience Fee feature is not available with the current invoice templates, including the Modern design.

Since you want to add this feature to your invoices, I suggest submitting a feature request to our product engineers by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Settings.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Click Next to submit feedback.

You can visit our Customer Feedback page if you'd like to track the status of your input.

In the meantime, if you'd like to add a convenience fee to your invoices, you can do so manually by creating a service item. This approach allows you to tailor your invoices to fit your business requirements while benefiting from the latest updates in QBO.
