I signed up for a free trial of QBO, and "imported" my desktop data file. However, 2 days later, I still don't see any data in QBO, and no indication what happened.

I tried QB chat, but after being transferred to the 3rd different chat department (no joke), my screen was blank and no chat came up. So I thought I'd try here since the paid help was no help.

Which QBD year version do you have? Did you encounter any error message when migrating to QBO?

I just tried the import again (I'm using QB Pro Plus 2021), and got an email that my "data is now available on QBO" Yeah!

Of course, when I login to QBO, I only see sample data, and my imported data is nowhere to be found.  Boo!  Such a mess.

It's my pleasure to help you get started with QuickBooks Online (QBO), jimr4510.

There is a Task List in your Dashboard where you can click to open your data. If you’re unable to find the To do or Task section, let’s go back to the Gear icon and complete the process.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Export Data.
  2. Click the Learn more link under Moving to QuickBooks Desktop? question.
  3. Hit Learn more in the Download company data section.
  4. Review the export overview and click Get Started.
  5. Choose Continue to download on the Exporting from QuickBooks Online page.
  6. In QBDT, go to the File menu and choose Close company in the No Company Open screen.
  7. Return to QBO and click Download. Then, select a location where you want to save the file.
  8. Once done, hit Convert Now. Then, go back to Desktop and in the Create a new QuickBooks file window, name the file and select a location to save it.
  9. Hit Finished once the export is successfully done.

Here's a complete guide on how to convert your company file: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, we have easy-to-access articles, webinars, and video tutorials that will help you in familiarizing the different tasks, features, and functions of QBO. Below are the following:

Of course, you're always welcome to visit us again if you need help while working with QuickBooks. It will be my pleasure. Stay safe and have a great day ahead!
