I want to update QuickBooks 2008 files to the latest version. How do I do that?

@Jesposito

You may need to upgrade your file(s) in steps on QBD 2011, 2015, and 2019 before open the file(s) on QBD 2021-2025. Send me a private message and we may share those trial codes.

Hello there, @Trevily1.

Fiat Lux - ASIA is correct about what you need to upgrade your files. Let me share some information with you. Upgrading an out-of-date file must be done in stages. This is because desktop versions of QuickBooks have a three-year timeline before being discontinued. This means that no longer-supported versions will no longer receive security or critical updates. Note that each version has its own set of system requirements for the program to function properly.

There is a significant distance between 2008 and 2021. After downloading a new company file, you cannot immediately restore an existing one. Your outdated version lacks updates and components, thus it is incompatible with the most recent version. You must upgrade the 2008 file to 2011, then 2018 to 2021, and restore the file in between.

That being said, I'd suggest contacting our support they'll be able to use a screen-sharing tool that can better assist you in updating your QuickBooks Desktop version.

 Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Continue.
  5. Sign in to your Intuit account and select Continue and then Continue with my account. If you don't already have an account, make sure to Create a new account.
  6. We'll email you a single-use code. Enter your code and select Continue. If you have more than one account, select the account you want to use and then Continue.
  7. Select to chat with us or Have us call you.

Hello there, @Trevily1.

There are instances when the option to private messages won't show up. We can fix this by refreshing your account, signing out, and logging in again.

I'd also recommend checking your browser. You can open a private window. Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:

  •  Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

You can visit this article to learn about the built-in browser that replaces Internet Explorer 11 in QuickBooks Desktop: Use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop.
