Let me provide some insights about exporting an invoice into an excel, @theproperpeony.
Here's more information about exporting reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.
The ability to export an invoice into an Excel file would be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I'll be sure to take note of it. For now, you can visit the QuickBooks Blog to check for new updates and features that we have.
Get back to me if you have any other questions that you may have with your invoices. I'm a few clicks away to help. Have a good day!
This post was from 2020, has their been any updates to the software that will allow an export of detail line items from an invoice to excel?
I know this post was from 2020, but I am dealing with a vendor who claims they cannot export detail line items from an invoice. Have there been any updates on this issue? We need to import a csv file into our system, but we need to know what the line items were on the invoice, and what we are paying for.
Surely, quickbooks has some automated features for this type of work???
Good day, @CHARWORT.
For now, the option to export invoices with detailed line items to Excel is unavailable in the program. Please know that added features in QuickBooks depends on the number of requests sent to our developers.
Let me take note of this suggestion to help improve your QuickBooks experience. On the other hand, you can send feedback to our developers, too. That way, they can review it and most likely include them in future updates.
Here's how:
Moreover, you can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

One way I found to get some detail is via Reports -> Accountant and Taxes -> Audit Trail. From there you can filter to find the invoice and export the detail, it does not show dates, but the details are there, although still trimmed unfortunately, but it's still something.
It would be very helpful to export an Invoice( with all line items) on to an excel sheet.
My goal is to create a packing slip that has all the vendor PO Confirmations and Delivery date for the warehouse to receive the material
If there is another way to link this information in 1 report, I would love to hear about it.
Good day, @Concepts in tile.
I understand the need to export invoices with all line items and create a packing slip with all the vendor PO Confirmations and Delivery dates for the warehouse to receive the material. I'll route you to the department where you can submit a feature request.
I can see how developing these reports would benefit everyone in this thread. Since they're unavailable, I recommend sharing this idea with our Product Development Team. They will review and consider them for future updates depending on the number of users' requests. Please know that we're unable to provide a timeline for its implementation.
You'll want to track your suggestion through this website. You can also visit our blog to keep up with recent events and developments.

LOL. One more reason to DITCH this dumb as !@#$ software and move on. It can't do the simplest things like get a detail report of charges on an invoice, or even include a project name on an invoice, or have multiple contacts at the same company, or track time properly against projects. It's such TRASH! But because they are the market leader, I guess people keep using this absolute TRASH.
Do you have any recomendations?
Hello there, @ZF_Admin.
Alternatively, you can also search for a supported third-party applications that have the capabilities you are looking for in your invoice.
Additionally, if you want to save your report's current customization settings, you can check this article: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.
If you have other questions about invoices, feel free to include them in the comments below. I'll be around to lend a hand. Keep safe!
What kind of recommendation do you need? An exporter tool or another accounting app to replace QB Online?
I switched my company to BQE Core. The migration from QB Online was not without a few challenges and the software itself is more expensive, but it is true project management software with an accounting module to do what QB does. The support through the migration has been excellent. I even had access directly to the CEO. They want their software to work well for you for sure. I now have access to insights I did not before like staff utilization, realization on each project or each staff member, billable vs non-billable time and expense items, aging AR, WIP, project performance, I can structure projects into Tasks/phases/sub-projects, get online time and expense keeping, the app is great. It’s night and day better than QB ever was.
Hello, April 2024. Just checking if this feature is available? Or are we still waiting?
Hello Jangita, I appreciate you joining the conversation. I understand that it is important for you to have your QuickBooks Online (QBO) invoice exported into an Excel file including line item details.
We appreciate our customers' feedback and its importance in making your QuickBooks invoice printing experience suitable for your business. However, at the moment, we can't guarantee that the feedback is being prioritized since it's being randomly reviewed by our developers. As a result, there's no set timeline for implementing the requested feature in future updates.
The good thing is that you can check our website to track the status of your feedback and see recently updated ideas at Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, you might want to visit our QuickBooks Blog for the latest innovations and product news.
Rest assured, I'll be available to assist you with any queries you might have on invoice printing preferences and other QuickBooks-related matters. We are always here to help. Stay safe!
Jangita,
You received the canned QB response that their developers have it on their list to fix. They never actually fix things. There is no point in hoping they will. If you need the “feature” (more of a bug to me), you will need to move on to better software from a company that cares. That’s what I did. Unfortunately it took me years to figure out I needed to because I kept holding onto hope. Don’t be like me! Move on!
cheers,
Justin
What system did you switch to?
My company is an environmental consulting firm. Our choices boiled down to Deltek or BQE Core. BQE worked “out-of-the-box” for the most part whereas Deltek would have required consultants to get it working. So we went with BQE and in spite of the migration not being perfectly smooth, it’s night and day better than QB ever was. The support from BQE has been exceptional. I could see it working for any “Project Based” company that bills Time and Materials. Other industries probably have other alternatives that I am not aware, since they don’t apply to my industry.
cheers,
Justin
Also, to be clear, the cost of alternatives is likely higher. One reason I stayed with QB for so long was that I didn't think I could justify the added cost of more appropriate software. Then I had a project where it was such a struggle to keep up with tracking projects in Excel and trying to match everything in QB that I had no visibility of how my projects were performing in terms of financials from day-to-day. I had a $40K project that went over by budget by $40K and I didn't see the signs until it was too late. If I had BQE from the beginning, it would have saved my company a $21K loss (at cost, not billing). So, I was penny wise and pound foolish sticking with QuickBooks. I now can see exactly how my projects are doing, even at the task level, on any given day. I can see problems coming before it is too late to make an adjustment and prevent such ridiculous losses. I can also invoice time and materials the way my clients expect in terms of format and EVEN GET A PROJECT NAME ON THE INVOICE (QB still can't get a project name on an invoice! It is one of those features they have on their list apparently. Shocker!).
Cheers,
Justin
