Liabilities

Accounts 66888 and 66899 have transactions in them - from 2017.  We don't owe these payroll taxes.  Is there any way to delete these accounts?

This problem shows up on the Balance Sheet - Standard.

Hi there, @Seabold. I've come to lend a hand with fixing your balance sheet in QuickBooks Desktop.

In this matter, balance sheet reports can be tricky. It's best to seek professional advice from your accountant to ensure the accuracy of your accounts. They know how to handle the next steps to ensure that your books are accurate and to avoid messing up the data when deleting accounts 66888 and 66899.

If you're not affiliated with one, you can utilize our Find an Accountant tool to look for one in your area.

In addition, I'll be adding these resources for more troubleshooting steps in case your reports are still out of balance:

Feel free to keep me posted if you still have questions or concerns with managing your financial reports in QuickBooks Desktop. I'll be around for you. Keep safe always.

If your payroll tax account have balances that you don't owe, you can write them down with payroll liability adjustments.  Be sure to enter the correct period (sometime in the past) so that they don't impact your current year's payroll tax balances or forms.
