logging into client's account vs. client listed as a client

Hi all. I'm trying to understand how my client shows up in my QB Accountant page. When I log in, I have the option to either go to my (accounting) business or the client's. If I go to my own business, this client does not show up in my Go To Quickbooks client dropdown. Is this because they added me as their accountant and/or do not have their QBO subscription through my account?

I've heard that QB periodically removes people's accountant accounts if they do not have any clients, so I want to make sure that doesn't happen to me. Also, I have never seen this setup before. Thanks!

logging into client's account vs. client listed as a client

Hi there, laurakan.

Thank you for posting in the Community. Let me share possible reasons why the client does not show up in my Go To Quickbooks client section. Then, to ensure that the specific client will appear on the list after performing the steps below.

There are a number of reasons why you might not find your client in the QuickBooks Online Accountant Client list.

  • The incorrect login is used
  • You were not invited as the Accountant
  • Firm access to the client was removed
  • The client was moved to the inactive list
  • The client was renamed in the QuickBooks Online Accountant Client List

To start with, you'll have to check your sign-in information. Your authorizations are tied to the email address and related user ID your client sent the invite to. If you have multiple user IDs you use for your QuickBooks Online Accountant firm, this is easy to miss.

Next, it could be their QuickBooks company may not be connected to your firm. That's the reason you're unable to see your client in Go To Quickbooks client dropdown section. To confirm this one, go to your Clients menu and see who's already connected.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon ⚙ and select Switch Company in QuickBooks Online Accountant.
  2. Select the dropdown symbol under your QuickBooks Online Accountant firm name.
  3. Look for your client's company.

If their company isn't on this list, it's not connected. I recommend asking your client to invite you to be their accountant again.

If the issue persists, you'll have to check your client list. You can open this article to see the steps on how to perform the process: Find missing client companies in QuickBooks Online Accountant. This also provides another instruction on how to solve the issue.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to view details on how you can open a client's QuickBooks company file to access their accounting data to help with their bookkeeping: Open and review clients' QuickBooks Online or Self-Employed accounts.

I'm just a few clicks away if you have any other questions about your finding the missing client's on the list. I'll be delighted to be your guide once again. Have a great day.

logging into client's account vs. client listed as a client

Thank you for those suggestions. I am able to see the client in the gear/Settings > Switch Company. I am not, however, not able to see them if I log in to my Accountant account and choose Go To Quickbooks.

I also see them when I first log in with the address they used to invite me. I am taken to the Select Company screen and can either choose my own company or the client's.

I tried deleting them as a client and adding them again. Unfortunately they have their own subscription, so I cannot choose the Subscription radio button. I suspect that choosing No Subscription is what makes them not show up in some places.

Can you clarify? Thanks!

OK, to close the loop, I finally figured this out. It turns out I was _not_ added as an accountant even though the company said I was. They added me, and it all seems to be working as expected. Thanks for your help with this.
