Mapped drive problem when connected as admin

I have issues with Payroll updates not completing and locking up the system saying file is open or cannot find file.  This is an infinite loop and QB will not close.  QB posted solution is to use task manager to close QB and then open QB as administrator.  Problem is the company file cannot be found when that happens. The company file is on a mapped drive and the admin account does not have any mappings.  So QB searches for company file and can't find the file and when I try to point to the network there is no network found.  Search for company files only finds local files. Only solution appears to be to open QB as admin and then before selecting file open the cmd window as admin and use net command to create a map to the server partition with the company file.  Why doesn't QB have a way to find mapped files defined from the user level since it works okay normally when logged in as user.  Once connected I can run payroll updates and then log out of admin mode and run as user.

Mapped drive problem when connected as admin

Greetings, @MalSokol.

I appreciate you for sharing the details and performing some steps to resolve this. Please know that this isn’t what I want you to experience with your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software.

Allow me to share some steps on how to map a network drive on your computer for your QBDT software. Here’s how:

For Windows 8/10:

  1. Press the Windows icon on your Keyboard.
  2. Type This PC in the search bar.
  3. Choose This PC from the search results
  4. Under the Computer tab, select Map a network drive.
  5. Select any unused drive letter and select Browse.
  6. Go to the network location where your QuickBooks company file is stored.
  7. Click OK then Finish.
  8. Reopen your QuickBooks company file from the new mapped drive.

You can also check this article for more details and the steps if you have Windows 7: How do I map a network drive in Windows?

In case you run into some company and network issues, you can utilize this article on how to handle the situation: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

You’re always welcome to post a reply in this thread if you have other concerns mapping a network drive or running payroll in QBDT. I’m just a post away from you. Take care and keep safe!
