My income sales are not showing in my Profit and loss report, I don´t understand why.

I can help you sort this out, @alzuleycha.

There are several possible reasons why you're not seeing your sales income in the Profit and Loss report. Let me guide you in doing so.

  • The Accounting basis set in the PL report.
  • With invoices and received payments, the revenue information is contained in the invoice.
  • With bills and bills payment, the expense is tracked by the bill.
  • The cash basis reports will use the invoice/bill date.

First, let's consider the accounting basis used in generating the report. The difference between cash basis and accrual basis reporting is how the date is determined for reporting the income or expense. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Choose the Profit and Loss report.
  3. On the Customize report window, set Accounting Method to how you want the income/expense reported.
  4. Press Run report.

If the same thing happens, you can customized the report to show all the income accounts. Let me show you how to check.

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Reports.
  3. Click Profit and Loss.
  4. In the top right-hand corner, press Customize.
  5. Pick the Filter section.
  6. Make sure a checkmark is beside of Distribution Account, and choose All in the drop-down box to show all accounts including income accounts.
  7. Hit Run Report

Also, you'd want to review the income account associated to the product item or service item used in the transaction.

If the account was correct and it's not showing on your Profit & Loss report, change the account to something else without ticking the box outlined in Step 4, save it, then change it to the correct account and tick that box and save. This will update the correct account and change all historical transactions to have that income account. You can read through this article for more detailed steps: Change the account for a product/service item.

My income sales are not showing in my Profit and loss report, I don´t understand why.

Hello lamjuViel,

Thank you for your help.

I forgot to say that is my Shopify income sales that are not showing in sales report and Profit and loss report.

I did not synk my Shopify with Quickbooks, may that be the issue?

If I synk them and create a new accounts for shopify in chart of accounts are they not going to clash with the existing ones? Like I already have a Paypal account, if I create a Shopify PayPal payment, is that not going to clash?

Thank you so much again for your help.

Hi, @alzuleycha.

I want to ensure that your Shopify Sales are added to your Profit and Loss report.

A few possible reasons why Shopify sales aren't showing up on your reports are the following:

  •  The transactions aren't added to QuickBooks.
  • Sales were not categorized to their corresponding income accounts.

Please make sure to add the transactions into QuickBooks and linked them to the correct income accounts.

On the other hand, PayPal and Shopify are two different e-commerce platforms. Thus, you may connect with PayPal or Shopify to check and know how the settings or process works for this apps to QuickBooks.

I'm adding these links for more hints between QuickBooks and PayPal or Shopify integration:

On the other hand, here's an article you can read more about handling and managing reports in QuickBooks Online: Create and manage reports.

My income sales are not showing in my Profit and loss report, I don´t understand why.

I understand that Paypal and Shopify are different, but some people are paying through Shopify with Paypal accounts, so does that mean that even if they are using my shopify online store to pay with Paypal the sales are always going to count as Paypal sales?

Hi there, @alzuleycha.

Allow me to share some insights about handling the transactions from your Shopify and PayPal feeds in QuickBooks Online.

Shopify sales have merchant fees when paid through PayPal. And you may also have PayPal transactions that weren't related to your Shopify sales that also need to be recorded. Hence, connecting both of your PayPal and Shopify accounts with QuickBooks is okay. Just make sure to categorize the fees to the specific accounts as well as the sale.

Also, you may exclude those duplicate transactions on the Banking page if there are any. Here's how to do that:

  1. Go to the Transactions tab and select Banking.
  2. Locate and check the boxes beside the duplicate transactions.
  3. Select Exclude. This is how it looks like:

I've added an article for your future reference about classifying the transactions accordingly: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

I'll be around if you have other questions. Feel free to let me know in the comment section. Have a great weekend!
