I'll hop in and shed some light on the default product and service used when entering time.
As you've mentioned in your response, the default product or service will be used whenever the Service field is left blank. This is normal since QuickBooks needs a service to track the hours worked (for billable customers).
Though, we're unable to change the default product or service, but we can change the name or the account used to track the income. Here's how to do it:
- Go to the Gear icon, then select Products and Services.
- Find the default Service item, then click on Edit.
- If you need to change the name, enter a different one under Name.
- For the income account, simply select another one under the Income account field.
- Once done, click Save and close.
I should also point out that we can change the account from historical transactions. Simply check the Also update this account in historical transactions box before saving and closing.
Alternatively, we can use another service to track the time. We would need to have the employee manually fill in the Service field when inputting the time.
I can see the benefit of having the option to change the default product and service item. In this case, we would want to send feedback to our developers. They'll read your inputs and might consider them for future updates.
To send feedback, simply click the Gear icon then select Feedback.
