QB completely messed up by a volunteer

I am a small non profit with about $50K  a year in turnover. I use Quickbooks Online. My bookkeeping volunteer has accidentally created havoc and I think I need to start my Quickbooks Online account from scratch all over again.

Is there a relatively straightforward way to do this without paying for two accounts during the transition time. Also, I have a discounted annual payment through Techsoup and I would loke to keep the discounted rate.

Hi @Cybermissions,

You can start fresh with your QuickBooks Online company data in two ways, depending on the age of your account and your subscription level. QuickBooks provides options to reset or transition your data, allowing you to create a clean slate while preserving essential records.

Company files within the first 90 days of the reset period can be purged in QuickBooks Online for Essentials, Plus, and Advanced subscriptions. Admin access is required, and the process affects only the current company file. Export important lists, such as customer and vendor data, beforehand. Clearing data is permanent and may disrupt bank or app connections.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account as an admin, ensuring you’re logged into the company you intend to purge.
  2. Open this link in your web browser: https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany.
  3. In the text field, type "YES" to confirm you want to delete all company data.
  4. Click OK.
  5. From the dropdown menu, select your industry.
  6. Choose Create accounts based on my industry to have QuickBooks set up your chart of accounts. Only select Create an empty chart of accounts if recommended by your accountant.
  7. Click Wipe Data to complete the process.

For files older than the 90-day reset period, discrepancies must be manually addressed. This involves correcting or removing inaccurate transactions, categorizing entries, and reconciling accounts to ensure accurate financial records while keeping your subscription active. You can work through this with your accountant's assistance.

You can refer to this link for more information on how to delete and start over your books: Delete your data and start over.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to reply.
