QB for Etsy

I have QB for Etsy. When an inventory item sale is made, it posts on my sales transactions automatically but does not update my inventory quantity. How to I adjust the product quantity without it posting twice as a sell, and how do I ensure it is reconciled with COGS for the product?

Glad to see you here in the Community, @Pam115.

To match the amount of an item you actually have in stock, you can manually adjust the number without recording a sale twice.

Here's how:

  1. Go to +New and select Inventory qty adjustment under Other.
  2. Enter the Adjustment Date and select the appropriate account in the Inventory adjustment account.
  3. Select the products in the Product field. Note: The description and current quantity on-hand auto-populates.
  4. In each item, enter either a new or a change quantity.
  5. Enter the details about the adjustment in the Memo field.
  6. Once done, click Save and close

Note: QuickBooks Online automatically records the necessary adjustments to your stock Asset and Cost of Goods Sold (under stock Shrinkage) accounts when you save the inventory adjustment.

Also, if you want to make sure that changes made are reconciled in the Cost of Goods Sold, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then click Chart of Accounts under Your Company.
  2. Select the accounts and select View Register.
  3. Click the Filter icon to narrow down the results. Select the Transaction Type.
  4. Locate the entries.
  5. In the Status (Checkmark) column, please make sure they're reconciled. If not, repeatedly click the box until you see the "R".
  6. Select Save after.
  7. Repeat the steps until done.

I've also added an article that will give you tips on how to customize your accounts: How to organize your Chart of Account in QBO.

Let me know if you have additional concerns with your transactions in QBO. I'm happy to help.
