Quickbooks Accountant online

...I am new to quickbooks...in setting up my chart of accounts I made a couple of mistakes and didn't realize it until the following month...I am trying to merge two accounts connected to the same bank & employees...I have followed all instructions online and it will not merge...

example:  Expenses...Payroll Expenses...expenses...payroll expenses

should be:  LIABILITIES...OTHER CURRENT LIABILITIES...PAYROLL TAX PAYABLE...PAYROLL LIABILITIES

Being that the accounts are different (expenses & labilities)...I cannot figure it out!

also...same issue I have in my accounts payable...can someone please help me correct this???

Thanks for sharing your concern in QuickBooks Community, @deska 5.

I'd be glad to help you correct your records in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Once you merge accounts in QuickBooks, you'll have to make sure that they have the same categories. In your case, you can't merge these accounts since they don't have a similar account type.

I'd suggest deactivating these accounts and creating new ones in QuickBooks. That way, your transactions will be posted to the correct accounts.

Before the deactivation, make sure to post these transactions to the right accounts first. Here's how to create a new account in the Chart of Accounts:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Chart of accounts.
  2. Click New. Depending on your account view, you’ll either see a panel labeled New account or New category.
  3. Select the Save account under ▼ drop-down list to choose an account type.
  4. In the Tax form section ▼ drop-down menu, choose the detail type that best fits the transactions you want to track.
  5. Enter a name in the Account name field.
  6. When you're done, click Save.

For additional info, you can check out this article: Add an account to your chart of accounts in QBO.

Once done, open your affected transactions and link them to the correct accounts. After that, you can now inactivate your incorrect accounts

Please take note that certain accounts in QuickBooks can’t be deleted because they are default accounts.

Keep me posted on how things turn out, @deska 5. I'll make sure you're all set. Keep safe!
