QuickBooks Traps Users in Expensive Plans – Refuses to Help

I am very, very frustrated with QuickBooks. I have been trying to downgrade from QuickBooks Plus to Simple Start, but I keep getting this message:

"You have the 'multicurrency' feature turned on in your current QuickBooks Plus SUBSCRIBED plan. This feature can't be turned off, and is not supported in the QuickBooks Simple Start plan."

Nowhere was I warned that enabling multicurrency -which I don't use- would permanently lock me into an expensive plan. This is deceptive and completely unfair to customers who want to scale down their subscriptions.

Even worse than that I spent hours on the phone with QuickBooks customer service, and the experience was infuriating. The agent I spoke to had no idea what the multicurrency feature was and was intentionally keeping me on hold instead of connecting me to a supervisor. She refused to help and wasted my time. It was obvious she had no intention of resolving my issue. She just made me listen to music for hours.

QuickBooks is behaving like a monopoly, trapping users in expensive plans with no way out to cheaper plans. They never disclosed this restriction when I signed up, and now I’m stuck paying for a plan I don’t need. The only solution they offer is closing my account and losing years and years of QB Capital history—which is completely unreasonable.

This is unacceptable, and I will be filing a formal complaint with the Office of Attorney General regarding QuickBooks’ predatory practices. Customers should have the right to downgrade their plans without being forced to start over or pay more indefinitely. And I should have the right to talk to another agent when I call the call center.

Has anyone else faced this issue?

QuickBooks Traps Users in Expensive Plans – Refuses to Help

Hello Berk1,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community and I appreciate your concerns. One thing to note is that before multicurrency is enabled on the account, a warning will appear, and some precautions will be listed, as you can see below, ensuring that you understand this can not be undone.

Once multicurrency is enabled, you can only downgrade or update to plans that support multicurrency. These would include QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus, and Advanced.

To continue downgrading your QuickBooks Online plan, visit this article for reference: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription.

Another solution mentioned would be to sign up for a new QBO Simple Start Account and use a migration tool or purchase a three-party conversion service.

Let me know if you have additional questions about managing your subscription in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help.

@Berk1

You can convert your data to QB Desktop as the first step. Then convert it again to QBO Simple Start.
