Can I run a budget versus actuals report by class?

Welcome to Community space, benval1214. I'll be glad to lend a hand in running a budget versus actuals by class report in QuickBooks Online.

If you generate a budget versus actuals report from the Reports menu, you'll be unable to customize it by class. What you can do is use the Budgeting tools subdivided by class. From there, you can create a Profit and loss, a Balance sheet, or a Custom budget.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, and select Budgeting.
  2. Click Create Budget.
  3. When setting up your budget, choose a budget type (Profit and loss or Balance sheet).
  4. On the Budget format, tap Subdivided and then click the Subdivided by dropdown for Class. You can then determine which one you subdivide for or select all.
  5.  Press Save.

Once done, you can navigate to the Reports again and run the Budget vs. Actuals. It will now show the Class you included when making a budget.
