How do I import QB file to online account?
If importing a file to QuickBooks Online is your goal, then I've got you covered, gctestfile.
Before proceeding, are you migrating from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online? If so, I'll gladly show you how to do it.
To start, make sure QuickBooks is up-to-date, and your file isn’t too big to export for a smooth process.
After that, we can now import your desktop file to QuickBooks Online. Here's how:
Note: Only QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced can track inventory. Both plans use the FIFO method.
If you’re using a version older than 2018, I'd suggest using a trial version to convert your file.
Once done migrating, you'll have to make sure your books match by running financial reports in the two versions of QuickBooks.

Thank you so much for providing this detail. I have an export file of a company that I’m looking to purchase, I am set up online on a Mac for QuickBooks. I don’t see an option that I can import a file that was emailed to me from the seller. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

In QuickBooks Desktop, make sure you're on the No Company Open screen. If you have a company open, go to File and select Close company. Then, let's proceed to import your QuickBooks Online file.
Here's how:
1. Go to File at the top menu bar.
2. Select Utilities.
3. Choose Import Web Connect Files.
4. Select created QBO file. And select an existing account to import transactions
5. Then click Continue.

If you are using Mac, you can open the company file on the trial license of QB Desktop for Mac version to migrate it to QBO.

Check with the file owner, if they are using QB Desktop (Windows) version, ask them to create a backup file for Mac. File > Utilities > Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac
