Sales by Customer Type summary report? There is a detail repot but no summary. If customer type is coffee shop - just need to know how many customers and revenue?

Thank you for your response but unfortunately that didn't help.  That did group by customer type but now it is still several line items for every invoice.  If I had 12 customers that month - it should have 12 lines with the total of the invoice.  If each invoice had 20 lines - this report will generate 240 lines and I need to manually add each line.  Here is what the report looks like

Hello there, erik13.

I appreciate you for following the solution shared by my colleague letting us know the result. The information you provided give us a better picture on what happened to your report. Let me point you in the right about your concern.

I can see the importance of adding more customization options for the Sales by Customer Type Detail is beneficial for your business and other users. This allows you to show the revenue for a set time with details on every line item, and automatic calculation for the item. I suggest submitting feedback about this feature to our engineers for inclusion in future updates.

Here’s how:

  1. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), head to the Gear icon in the upper right and choose Feedback under Other
  2. This action will open a window that lets you input your thoughts and ideas.
  3. From there, make sure to enter your product suggestions in the field box.
  4. Click Next to submit.

Really?  That is the answer?  Nobody ever does anything with that feedback?  There are questions on the forums from over 3 years ago of people requesting this report - you have it in the detail - it would take a programmer about 10 minutes to make it in a summary?  This is an unacceptable answer but one that as quickbook users we have come used to.  I have opened 6 cases in the last 5 months and not one of them have I ever received one email or feedback on - they were all eventually closed and just hope that I didn't ask again.

Also you said that under select and reorder columns there is a button for customer but there is not - so in the detail report you literally can't even see the customers name - you can see invoice # .  Here is what you said you would see and then a picture of what you actually see and customer is not a choice for a column! Greenshot 2022-04-27 09.49.55.png

Hello there, erik13.

Allow me to help make things clear about running the Sales by Customer Type detail report.

If you're not seeing the Customer option under columns, you'll want to scroll down a bit to see other unchecked boxes. I've attached a screenshot for your reference:

Here's an article made handy about modifying columns on the report: Customize and modify columns on reports.

I also have some additional articles about managing a wide range of reports in QBO:

Get back to me if there's anything I can help you with. I'd be happy to assist you further. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Sales by Customer Type summary report? There is a detail repot but no summary. If customer type is coffee shop - just need to know how many customers and revenue?

I just need to run a summary report.  Quickbooks desktop let me choose between summary and detailed.  I just need to check hours worked on certain jobs in sum for the week, not day by day.  I have to check 10 times the amount of data and manually add it up as I can only see the detailed report.  I am paying almost a thousand bucks per year for this online stuff which is inferior to the desktop version that was about 1/3 the annual cost.  This transition to quickbooks online really sucks so far.  There have been a few improvements, but still a very painful and time consuming transitio and migration.  QB online - please get it together !

Plus, the help answers seem to never be from someone who truly understands how a business is ran or how accounting is done.  The support does not seem to understand the underlying root needs of their customers.  QB must be bidding out their support to the lowest bidder....come on now !

I can completely understand why you're so upset. I know how you want to work QuickBooks Online the way QuickBooks Desktop does, Samin.

As with most comparisons, the best QuickBooks product may depend on what your business needs. QuickBooks Online (QBO) is probably the better option if you need easy-to-use, remote-access accounting software that can be used from anywhere.

You'll want to send a request to our product team to let them know how this feature helps your business. To do so, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

Moreover, learn how you can filter information to show specific accounts or customers or format the layout so the right data shows up. I've got this article for your guide: Customize Reports In QuickBooks Online.

Reach out to us if you have any questions about summary reports. We're always right here to help you all the time.

Sales by Customer Type summary report? There is a detail repot but no summary. If customer type is coffee shop - just need to know how many customers and revenue?

thanks, but I already tried customizing and even got a specialist to try and help me (from quickbooks support) and he could not do it either.  It is a feature that needs to be added. I think i already requested it in the feedback section.  Thanks for the attempt at helping me though.  I feel like most of the support I get is from people who do not understand small business needs.  I am frustrated that I am paying more for an inferior product that always tries to get me to buy more apps and add ons....sorry

Sales by Customer Type summary report? There is a detail repot but no summary. If customer type is coffee shop - just need to know how many customers and revenue?

I need Sales by Customer Type SUMMARY report also.  Silly that it is not already available.  I had QBE for years and it was readily available.  All the Detail is unnecessary for our purposes and only services to create a total muddy, long report that we have to export to Excel and manipulate EVERY time we want to view current data.

Doesn't any other QBO user out there want to see an easy summary report showing how much revenue is being generated by each vertical that their company services?
