Why isn't it easier to find the first/last name of a customer in QB Online?

I'm hoping someone has an answer that I have overlooked.  We migrated from QB Desktop to Online and I miss being able to see the first and last name of my customer when I click on Client Details.  I want to see the company name in my account list, but if I have to send them an email, I would like to address them by name.

The only way I've found is to click Edit on the client, which opens a side panel and after I get the name and close it, it asks me if I want leave without saving (which I haven't made any changes).  This is really annoying me and I hope it's something that I've overlooked.  Otherwise, will you join me in making this a feature request?

Good evening, @gkbrenne

It's great to see you back in the Community!

To clarify, are you referring to seeing the client's first and last name in the customer list or on the email?

This will help us determine the next steps you need to take. Here's a few articles that may be able to help you out:

Candace - thank you for asking.  Unfortunately none of those articles apply.  Here's a real life example:

I need to contact Turner Technology about something.  I bring up the client, click on Client Details and I see this:

Notice, I cannot see the client's name.  If I click on Edit, I will then see the client name:

The email address and the phone number are displayed in both views - why can't the full name also be displayed?

Hi there, @gkbrenne.

I appreciate the detailed explanation you have provided regarding your concern. I'm here to help you get this resolved.

The name displayed in the client field is the display name, which may be the first and last name of your client or your company's name. There is a way for us to see both the client's and the company name in the Client & leads section. Let me guide you on how.

  1. In the Client's & leads section, choose Clients.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Click on the Client display name * dropdown.
  4. Choose one of the three or four options on how your Client's name will be displayed.
  5. Select Save.

Please refer to the image below for reference.

Thank you for that information, but then the company name shows as the individual.  I don't always know the individual that I'm working with at a company - that changes constantly in some cases.  But I notice in your screen shot, it does show the Company name underneath the Client Display Name if the Client Display Name is not the Company.

Please consider this a suggestion to add showing the Full Name under the Client Display Name if the Client Display name is the Company name.

Wow, this is pretty horrible, isn't it? It's too bad QB Online doesn't show you the customer information that most users want in a quick preview the way QB Desktop does. You'd think they'd just copy Desktop, given the work Intuit probably put into figuring out what users want to see, which they clearly didn't give a care to with Online...

As in so very many other ways, in this case Desktop is the more usable and useful version of QuickBooks.

When clicking on a customer name from the customer list using desktop (no need to move open another window from the customer list), this is what Desktop displays:
