Update the Financial Institutions Directory in QuickBooks Desktop

Automatically or manually update your Financial Institutions Directory (FiDir) in QuickBooks Desktop to ensure that you have the latest information from your financial institution.

Note: You need to update each directory or list per QuickBooks version.

 Before troubleshooting:

Update your Financial Institutions Directory (FiDir)

Automatic update

  1. Go to Banking, then select Bank Feeds > Bank Feeds Center.
  2. Select the reload or refresh icon at the upper right or choose Sync all for this bank from the drop-down.

Manual update

  1. Locate the fidir.txt file on Windows 10, 8, and 7.
    Product File Location
    Enterprise C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions XXXX\Components\OLB\branding\filist
    Pro/Premier C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks XXXX\Components\OLB\branding\filist
  2. Right-click fidir.txt, then select Rename.
  3. Change .txt to .old, then select outside the field to save the name change.
  4. Select your QuickBooks version to get the latest file.
  5. On the "Save As" window, select Desktop, then Save.
  6. On the Desktop, right-click the fidir.txt file, then choose Copy.
  7. Right-click the Start button, then select My Computer (or Computer).
  8. Open the filist folder from step 1.
  9. Right-click anywhere in the folder, then Paste.
  10. Close and reopen QuickBooks.
