Auto Match Rules Changed, Now Matching Old Transactions

Rules for Auto Match in QB Desktop were recently changed, adding a lot of additional work when adding downloads.  Many clients have repetitive, monthly transactions, usually small $10 or $20 fees that are now Auto Matched to older transactions.

For the last 3 or 4 months, the Auto Match section of Transactions under Bank Feeds in QB Desktop has been auto matching current month payments to older transactions of equal amount.  For instance Adobe charged the client 57.36 on 1/13/22.  Bank Feeds/Transactions, selecting View Details reveals that it is Auto Matched to the exact same transaction from 11/15/21. If accepted as an Auto Match, the transaction does not show up in the register and is missing when it is time to reconcile the account.

Today there are 35 such transactions for this client.  To correct, the user must go to the Auto Match section of Transactions under Bank Feeds, Select down arrow, then select Not A Match.  QB then takes you to the Need Your Review screen requiring that you return to the Auto Match screen and repeat the process for each transaction matched that way.  Even working efficiently, it takes time for each transaction, adding another 15 to 20 minutes of detailed review.   Doing this is absolutely necessary or the register will be off by the amount of improperly matched transactions.

Not sure what changed or why, but this is a PITA.  QB needs to immediately roll back code changes to the version that worked.  If anyone knows a work around for this, please let me know.

Also, please do not respond with a simple tutorial on how to download bank transactions.  If you feel that urge, go back and reread the post until you understand what I'm talking about.

Auto Match Rules Changed, Now Matching Old Transactions

Update:  In some cases, after selecting Not A Match in the Auto Match section, the Auto Match rules will run again selecting another matching amount on a different date.  In today's batch, there were four $2.50 ATM transaction fees.  The Not A Match process had to be repeated multiple times to finally move the transaction to Need Your Review screen so it could be classified correctly.

The old rules programming never had this issue.  I don't know what changed, but the whole purpose of a rules based bank download is to speed data entry.  This is anything but...
