Can someone please show me how to remove a transaction from my bank feed?

There are some transactions currently in my bank feed that I don't want in my bank feed or my register - I just want them gone. Can you please show me how to remove a transaction from the bank feed screen? I would GREATLY appreciate any help someone could provide.

Are they duplicates?

You can delete them in the Bank Feed.  But the easiest way is probably to Accept them and then go to the Checking Register and Delete the duplicates.  Just be sure to Delete the right one.  Check the Expense Acct associated with the entry to make sure you've got the right one.

Thanks so much for the response. Yes they are duplicates. Could you show me how to remove it from the bank feed page instead of from the register?

You can ignore the transactions to remove them from the Bank Feed Center, @typicole.

Let me walk you through how.

  1. Go to Banking, Bank Feeds, then select Bank Feed Center.
  2. Choose the account in question.
  3. Locate the duplicate transaction and then mark it.
  4. From the Action drop-down, click Ignore.
  5. Tap Yes when prompted. See the attached screenshots below.

With the above steps, you're able to delete duplicate transactions from the Bank Feed Center. Check out this article for more information: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm also adding this link to help you manage bank-related tasks. It has our general banking topics with articles: Find help with bank feeds and reconciling accounts.

Please let me know if you still have questions or concerns with bank transactions. I'm always here to help. Take care and have a nice day ahead.

I was trying to find the instructions for the version of QBDT you have, but everything refers now to the current Bank Sync.  It's been a while since I've used that version.

I think you Right Click on the transaction you want to Ignore or Delete and a menu opens.  And I also think you may have to do the Right Click over Unmatched, but I could be wrong about that and anywhere along the line may work.  I also seem to remember that it was a pain to actually get them to go away and the item stayed in list for a while.  That's why I was suggesting you just accept it and then Deleting the transaction from the Register.  If you're not sure you're going to get the duplicate, before you Accept the items, go into the Register and put an X in the Memo field of the original entries.  Then Accept accept and Delete the duplicates.  When you're all done, go remove the X you added.

You can get to the Register from the Home Page (right side) or through the Chart of Accounts (Ctrl/A).

ALSO, I just remembered....  The Bank Feed date is when the transaction hit the bank.  So the transactions may to into the CC Register a day or days later than when you entered the actual receipt.

@ShiellaGraceA Thank you so much for that detail response. Unfortunately, you showed me how to remove a bank feed transaction in express mode but I was looking for an instructions on removing a bank feed transaction in "classic mode." Please notice how in the screenshot I sent, classic mode doesn't have that action column. I use classic mode so that the merchant name auto-populates the payee field in the bank feed and also in the register (classic mode is the only mode that populates the payee field with the merchant name). Do you know if there is a way to remove a transaction from the bank feed in classic mode? Thanks so much!

@Pete_Mc thanks so much for your insight, I really appreciate it. I know that you can remove transactions from the register but I was really hoping that you could remove transactions from the bank feed screen in "classic mode" - as it would be significantly less work. For context, I use classic mode so that the merchant name auto-populates the payee field in the bank feed and also in the register (classic mode is the only mode that populates the payee field with the merchant name). Following your tips, I tried right clicking the unmatch link and everywhere else on the transaction row but had no luck. Is there anything else you would recommend trying or is there just no way to remove bank transactions in classic mode?

Which version of QBs are you using?  I remember some had an additional menu at the bottom, but I don't see it with the screen shot you uploaded.  That's why I was suggesting the Right Click to see if you got the options.

Also, you really should not be getting a lot of duplicates, usually people only get them on their first Bank Sync.  So maybe there is an operational issue that you can change to keep from getting duplicates.  Remember that the Bank Sync is to compare what is in your Register to what has been submitted to the bank.  It's main purpose is to catch errors. So if you can get the entries corrected in the Register, you should be able to match them and not have any duplicates.

You can have the Register open at the same time you're looking at the Bank Sync.  So you can be correcting the entries to make sure they are correct.

Also, if you haven't been, be sure to do the Bank Feed BEFORE you Reconcile.  If an item is marked as Reconciled, the Bank Sync will ignore it.  And run the Bank Feed often, that also helps keep things in sync.

So I'll go back to my original suggestion to Accept Everything and clean things up in the Register.  Then immediately do another Bank Feed and see if you're in sync.  Hopefully from that point forward things will stay in sync.
