Can we import lengthy journal entries using a .csv file?

I can help you with adding your journal entries, @shawna-barlette-.

The option to import your journal entry in a .csv file is currently unavailable. That would be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I'll take note of it. I also encourage you to leave feedback from within the product.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  2. Provide your product suggestion.
  3. Click on Next to submit feedback.

You may consider adding them manually one by one or find a third-party app that works well and can integrate with QuickBooks Online that can import your .csv file.

Here's how to add a journal entry:

  1. Go to the + New button and select Journal Entry
  2. Enter your debit and credit amounts.
  3. Provide all necessary information.
  4. Click on Save and new or Save and close.

Check out the following article for more information about when and why we enter journal entries: Create journal entries in QuickBooks Online

You can check for supported apps through the QuickBooks Apps Store or from the Apps menu.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Apps menu at the left pane to get to the Finds Apps page.
  2. Enter a keyword in the Search address.
  3. Select the app you want to use.
  4. Click on the Get app now button.

Refer to this article to see the list of what you can be imported to QBO: Move your lists to QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you need further help importing your journal entries. I'm always here to help. Have a great rest of the day!

Can we import lengthy journal entries using a .csv file?

You know, I find this response SUPER WEIRD.

Back in January 2023 you posted an article about doing this very thing:
https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-au/help-article/import-export-files/import-journal-en...

From the article:

Step 2: Import your journal entries

Note: You can turn on class tracking to import journal entries with classes.

  1. Go to Settings , then select Import Data.
  2. Select Journal Entries.
  3. On the Download page, select BrowseNote: If you need help formatting your journal entries, select Download a sample file.
  4. Find and select your CSV or Excel file. Select Open, then Next.
  5. Map your information. Your Field represents the headers on your spreadsheet. From each small arrow ▼ icon, select the one that matches a field in QuickBooks Online.
  6. Select Next. If there’s an error, edit the file and try again.
  7. Select Start import.
  8. Select Done.

Kinda strange when you come in and say this doesn't exist.  but not so strange when you consider that quicken is pushing a 3rd party SaaS solution that does this.   Seriously what serious accounting software can say with a straight face that they can't do CSV import??  thats like having a spreadsheet program that can't do SUM.

Can we import lengthy journal entries using a .csv file?

We understand how you feel about it, @Prozach. We also appreciate you chiming in on the thread with your concern about importing journal entries in QuickBooks Online (QBO). We're glad to share additional information to clarify things for you.

We understand the importance of having the option to import journal entries and use our program without issues. However, we agree with Fiat Lux Asia that the article you shared applies to QBO Australia (AU) region. That said, the option to import journal entries in the United States (US) region is currently unavailable.

You'll want to share your ideas with our Product Development Team regarding this feature in QBO. That way, they'll get the time to know it and consider them for future updates. Follow the steps below to submit a request to our product developers.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Profile column, select Feedback.
  3. Share your suggestion, then click Next.

You can track your suggestion through this website: QuickBooks Online Feature Requests. You can also visit our blog to keep up with recent events and developments.
