It's indeed more efficient to add tags directly to the banking or register page than to do it for each transaction by opening its details. Allow me to share information regarding this matter.
You can add tags to transactions from the banking page in QuickBooks Online. To do this, you can enable this feature from the page settings. Here's how:
However, this option is currently unavailable in the bank register. Therefore, I recommend sending suggestions to our product development team. Your insights and ideas can be included in future product updates, ensuring the product meets different business needs.

Moreover, you can run and customize Profit and Loss by Tag Group or Transaction List by Tag Group report to review your business's financial status by segment.

Actually @KimberlyS, it turns out you can do it in the Bank Transactions page (but still not in the Bank Register). You just have to expose the field!
As far as reports go, I did figure out that you can run regular reports on Tag Groups, just not individual Tags. So any individual tag that needs reporting on has to be put into a group of one. Weird, but it works.
