Change American Express Connection From Sub Account to Parent

I set up an American Express account using the Personal Credit Card connection because I was only using one card, now I want to add another card on this account and track using the Parent connection. Do I just disconnect the Personal and reconnect using Parent or is there another step I need to do to make this change. I would prefer not making a new separate Parent account.

Change American Express Connection From Sub Account to Parent

Let me provide some details to guide you on what to do with the other card, PalmParrot.

Generally, the most common way to set up a bank account or credit card account with multiple cards associated with it is to create a parent account and then have each individual card set up underneath as a subaccount.

Before you connect to Online Banking, you'll have to know how the bank sends the downloaded transactions.  If the transactions download to one account, you can connect only the parent account. If the transactions download to the individual accounts, connect the subaccount and not the parent account.

After you knew how the bank sends the downloaded transaction, you can check out this article for more detailed steps on how to create a subaccount: Create Subaccounts In Your Chart Of Accounts In QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, learn how QuickBooks add or try to look for a match with transactions you've already entered in your QuickBooks account. I've got this article for additional information: Categorize And Match Online Bank Transactions In QuickBooks Online.

If there's anything else that you need help with connecting your account, let us know so we can get back to you as soon as possible. We're always right here to help you.
