Join nowOnce in a while when I pay a bill in quickbooks, the check will print fine, but the next time I go to print checks again, I find it in the print queue again and upon inspection, find that it did not record it in the register under the original check #? What is causing this and how can I keep it from happening?
Allow me to share additional information regarding this printing issue, jadeshelley.
When a check is tagged as Print Later in the write check window, it won't generate a check number. This will remain in the print queue until you actually print it, then let you assign a check number.
You can remove the check mark on the Print Later box. And, if the issue persists, run the verify and rebuild process. Verifying data identifies the data issues within your company file, while the Rebuild data resolves most data integrity issues.
Here's how:
Once done, you can proceed with verifying the data:

Maybe I didn't explain it fully. When I create the check, yes, it is tagged as print later. Then I go to print form/checks and print my checks where it generates check numbers for all checks. The check will print fine with my batch, but for some reason go right back into the check to print queue and will not be recorded in the check register although it printed with the batch of checks. It doesn't happen all the time, just randomly with random checks....?
Thanks for getting back to us, and proving more details with your concern, @jadeshelley.
Since this unexpected behavior doesn't happen all the time, I'd suggest following the steps shared by my colleague MaryLandT to resolve this. This might be a data damage issue on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
Also, make sure to keep your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes. Here's how:
Once the update is successfully installed, restart Windows or your device to make sure all the necessary components are updated.
If the issue persists, try running the PDF and Print Repair Tool. This will help fix printing issues, including QuickBooks not responding and Unrecoverable errors. For your reference, you can also check out this article for further guidance: Troubleshoot PDF and Print problems with QuickBooks Desktop.
Additionally, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Help Articles - QuickBooks Desktop.
Please let me know how it goes so I can get back to you right away. I'm always here if you have any follow-up questions or concerns. Wishing you all the best!
Did you figure this out? I have the same issue occasionally.
I did... Forgive me as it was quite a while back and I don't remember the specifics. I can't remember which way I had it, but there is an option to have quickbooks move between fields when you press enter. Whichever way I had it, I would press enter after printing my checks to close the window, but instead of just closing, it would put a checkmark next to the check to add it back to the print que. If I used the mouse and made my selections, it would not do this. I just changed that quickbooks option in the (Edit, Preferences, General Tab), and I don't have that trouble any more.
Thank you! I think I figured it out as well.
Hi!
I am having the same problem.
I know it's been a while since you had this issue, but do you remember how you cleared the already printed cheques from the queue?
Any help would be appreciated.
