Consistent issues with online banking connection

Since the latest update (which was supposed to FIX online banking issues), I seem to be caught in a never-ending doom loop with some of my company files. I get the message "there were problems with the account at your financial institution" after all of my connections had been working pretty flawlessly for a long time.

 

So I go through this really fun process of disconnecting the accounts from online banking. Closing my company file, deleting my PLIST files, opening the company again, going through online banking setup, and have to do this whole process for each bank. It then works for a period of time, and then stops again. This is happening for Chase and American Express. It's only happening for some of my company files, and it's extremely annoying. I checked the file integrity of the company files that are problematic and they have no errors. 

 

Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? It's really made me consider switching to QBO.

As I know, they are still struggling to fix this ongoing problem. You should check out QBO if you prefer not to switch banks. Unless @IntuitBrooks has useful recent insight into this issue.

However, since you keep receiving the error message "there were problems with the account at your financial institution" even after performing troubleshooting, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Desktop support, for they have the necessary tools to look into this. They might also initiate an investigation if needed.

 

Here's how to Contact QuickBooks Desktop for Mac:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then click Continue.
  5. Sign in to your Intuit account, select Continue, and then Continue with my account.
  6. We'll email you a single-use code. Enter your code and select Continue.
  7. Select to chat with us or Have us call you.

Consistent issues with online banking connection

There have been some issues reported in the forum of people experiencing online banking failures.  There aren't consistent symptoms so I'm not sure there is a single root cause. I'm trying to help another forum poster work through it and discover an underlying issue that we can address. So far it isn't something that we've been able to reproduce and I have Chase, Wells, Amex, BoA, and other accounts.  

 

First the process of resetting this for you probably only needs to focus on disassociating the online banking connections and then setting them up again. I wouldn't worry about deleting plists and quitting QuickBooks - that's probably not accomplishing anything. 

 

One common element with the other case is you have multiple company files. Do any of those company files share bank accounts? Do they share Intuit Account log ins (OII - the account you log in under the QuickBooks Mac toolbar "Intuit account" icon)?  Are you using American Express Delegate as one of your bank feeds?  (I think the Delegate feed is for accounts that have multiple individual Amex cards)

 

Let me know - perhaps we can find a clue.  FWIW as far as I know QuickBooks Online uses the same banking back end services - as do all other Intuit products (and, I think, Quicken, which is no longer Intuit's).  These backend services have gone through a lot of change at the behest of the Financial Institutions in order to make everything more secure.  That's what drove the changes as far as I know.
