DIRECT CONNECT AND MACBOOK PRO QB CRASHES

I am at a loss as to what to do! My bank Redstone Federal Credit Union has once again changed their banking platform. Every time I try to get my QuickBooks  (I have a MacBook Pro with Catalina) to work with online banking my Quick Books Crashes! The bank sent me the specific steps to follow and I did them and still no luck.

Any help would be deeply appreciated!

I'd like to provide reasons on why your QuickBooks crashes while working with online banking, @Pixiesmoon.

It has identified that there are file incompatibility issues between early versions of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019 and 2020  and macOS Catalina. This caused the program not to load or crash.

You can fix the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling it to improve the program functionality. Before we start, you need to make sure the system is updated to its latest release.

In case you're using the CD to install the product, make sure you have it handy along with your license numbers.

Once ready, follow these steps to uninstall:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Go to the Finder menu.
  3. Select Go Applications.
  4. Drag the QuickBooks icon to the Trash.
  5. Reinstall the latest version.

After that, reinstall the latest version. Here's how:

  1. Go to QuickBooks Product Updates.
  2. Select your QuickBooks Desktop version.
  3. Click Download to download the installer file to your computer.
  4. Double-click the downloaded .dmg file.
  5. Drag the QuickBooks Desktop icon to the Applications folder to install. Then, restore your company file in QuickBooks.

You can verify the update by pressing the Cmd+1.

Moreover, if the issue persists after performing the steps above, you can do a clean install. This refreshes QuickBooks with the installation files that were left behind during the re-installation process. For the detailed steps, kindly refer to this article: Reinstall QuickBooks for Mac using clean install.

Please let me know how things turn out or if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help. Have a lovely day!

Will I lose any of my previous entries in quick books? I am not very computer savvy!

You will not lose any of your entries in QuickBooks Desktop Mac (QBDT Mac), @Pixiesmoon.

I can help you make your company file safe before performing the steps mentioned by my colleague.

To avoid data loss, you can create a backup file in your Local Drive. I'd be happy to show you how:

  1. In QBDT, Open the QuickBooks menu, then choose Preferences
  2. Select Backup.
  3. Adjust your backup preferences and save the file where you can find it easily when restoring the data.

After that, you can do the steps provided by my colleague.

To know more details about creating a backup file, check out this article: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.

I'd be happy to assist you again if you have more concerns regarding the Mac version. You're always welcome to reply to this thread for questions.
