Has anyone successfully imported trips from their Google Timeline into QuickBooks Self-Employed?

I'm unable to import trips from Google. I have quite a few over the past few weeks and adding them manually is not an option. I've been using Google as I haven't had much luck with QBSE's native mileage tracker, which I find to be resource intensive (it also makes my phone's OS unstable). However, I've followed QB's instructions to the letter on how to import trips from Google, but the app doesn't do so and tells me to check back later. I've tried using the .ZIP format as well as trying to get it to read the .JSON file directly to no avail. This seems to be a known issue going back several years, but I've yet to see any community member state they've successfully imported Google trips to QBSE. Does that rare soul exist, or are there any tips from the community on how to make this happen?

Has anyone successfully imported trips from their Google Timeline into QuickBooks Self-Employed?

This is unusual, jadi635513.

The issue in importing trips could be browser-related. The outdated stored cache can affect the performance of the program.

To rectify this, let's access your QuickBooks Self-Employed account via a private window. This is a good place to determine if there's an issue with the browser. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

If it works, go back to the regular browser and clear the cache. Doing so helps us improve the performance of the program. Otherwise, try importing the trips using other supported browsers. They also provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.

Aside from that, you can also manually add trips. Here's how:

  1. Go to Miles on the left navigation menu.
  2. Click Add trip. If this is your first trip, QuickBooks will ask you to complete the fields in the Vehicle info.
  3. Enter the date of the trip and description. The description should include the business purpose and the starting and ending locations.
  4. Enter the mileage, then choose Save.

In case none of this fixes the problem, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They're equipped with tools to check the cause. It'll also allow them to submit a ticket to our engineering team to alert them about the issue if necessary.

Additionally, I've added steps below that'll help you review your trips to ensure they're added to the correct categories:

  1. Go to the Miles menu.
  2. Review the imported trips
  3. Categorize each as Business or Personal.

Please keep us posted if you have other questions or concerns about working with your mileage in QuickBooks. We're always here to help you keep your record accurate.

Has anyone successfully imported trips from their Google Timeline into QuickBooks Self-Employed?

I tried everything and the only thing I wanted from this app was exactly to import my trips. I can't get in touch with a human being and have no answers. At this moment I am regretting my subscription so much

Hello there,

I'd appreciate it if you could provide us with more information about the issue you've encountered. What error do you get during the import process? You can also attach a screenshot. This way, we could determine the problem better and provide the equivalent solution in return.

In the meantime, you can manually add trips. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Miles menu.
  2. Click Add Trip button.
  3. Enter the date and distance.
  4. (Optional) Add a start and end address.
  5. Add a Trip purpose note.
  6. Once done, hit Save.
  7. Repeat the same process for the rest of your trips.

Additionally, I've added these articles for future reference:
