Buy nowI have 3 issues going on in one CC reg. First off, it does not have an opening balance. Second it has a historical transactions that were added after 6 months of reconcile have been done and finally there is a journal entry for a balance adjustment. How is it best to proceed? Un-reconcile everything? Do a mini reconcile? Also, how should I handle the journal entry if the balance adjustment is no longer needed?
Thanks
A few questions to clarify what's going on....
Is the JE because of the additions after the prior Reconciliations or is there actually an issue going way back? And what exactly do you mean by no Opening Balance, the field is blank or it has $0.00 in it?
Do you think all of the Transactions are currently in the Register? Basically it's cleaned up, just the Reconciliation is messed up?
Since you're on Enterprise, I'm not sure if that really means you have multiple Users and it's not a simple thing to kick them all off for a while. But *IF* the JE is just in there because of the added entries after the fact and *IF* you think all the transactions are in there and you should Reconcile.... I would UN-Reconcile the last 6 (or 7) months and start over.
In theory if everything is in there then you should be able to exclude the future transactions for each month you Reconcile and see where you are when you Select All. There's a good chance that charges made at the end of the month will not show up until the next month. So before going through every transaction, I'd work backwards from the end of the month and deselect the ones I don't find on the Statement. Hopefully there are only a few that took a couple of days to clear and they're on the next statement. (Again, I don't know the business and if this card has a 100 trans. a day.)
But if everything is in there, it shouldn't take that long to Reconcile again. And what this will also show you is if that JE was because in some month they really didn't add all the transactions, so you'll be able to clean that up too.
And on the Opening Balance... Does the JE have anything to do with that? Did someone not understand how CCs work and put in a JE to show the end of the month as $0 even thought there were outstanding transactions?
Hi Pete,
The JE is due to there being no opening balance entered. I have calculated the opening balance and was planning to make it the first entry hoping that would fix things. What should I do with the JE if all goes well.?
