How can I reconcile without linking a bank account?

Reconciling without linking a bank account in QuickBooks Online is an easy process, anita.

I'd be glad to share these steps with you:

  1. Navigate to the Gear or Settings icon and click on Reconcile. If this is your first time reconciling, choose Get Started to proceed.
  2. Click the drop-down list for Account, then select the account you want to reconcile. Make sure it's the same one on your statement.
  3. Verify the Beginning balance to ensure it matches the starting balance in QuickBooks with that on your statement. Here's what to do if they don't match.
  4. Enter the Ending balance and Ending date on your statement. Some banks call the ending balance a "new balance."
  5. If you see it, review the Last statement ending date. This is the end date of your last reconciliation. Your current bank statement should start the day after.
  6. Once done, click Start reconciling.

How can I reconcile without linking a bank account?

This is not my first time reconciling. I've been doing it for years but now it wants to me to connect to the bank account.  Last month I was able to reconcile the normal way without linking the bank account. Where is the previous template? We do not want to connect to the bank account.  Help!

Thank you!

How can I reconcile without linking a bank account?

Thanks for following up with the Community, anita-dawnint. I appreciate your detailed information.

Connecting a bank account with online banking isn't required to reconcile an account. It only saves a step by automatically downloading transactions and entering the account's opening balance for you.

I've confirmed in our test drive account that connecting a bank account isn't required to reconcile.

Here's an image showing my experience:

As seen in the image above, I was able to successfully reconcile accounts without having to connect them to online banking.

Since you're encountering a message advising you to connect an account to be able to reconcile, I'd initially recommend clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies. These types of temporary internet files can sometimes cause display issues with certain webpages. You can also confirm you meet each of our system requirements.

If you continue encountering a message advising you to connect an account with online banking to be able to reconcile, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.

  2. Click Contact Us.

  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then hit Let's talk.

  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a great Wednesday!
