How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

@TSev

Consider sticking with QB Desktop and setting up a private cloud solution if needed. I'm not sure they will add this feature in QB Online after acquiring an inventory management app last year.

How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

Hello there, @Botrys. Welcome back to the Community. Ensuring you'll be able to get the app you need is important to get back to business in no time. I'm here to route you to the site where you can search for one.

To ensure you'll be able to get the app that is compatible with QuickBooks Online (QBO), I recommend visiting our QuickBooks Apps store. Since we treat all businesses fairly, I suggest searching there to find the program that suits your need. Here's how:

  1. Head to the QuickBooks Apps store at this link.
  2. From there, enter the keyword or name of the app you're looking for in the Search bar.
  3. Once done, press the Enter key on your keyboard.
  4. You'll be given a list of the app related to the keyword you input.
  5. To verify the app you can use, you can check the reviews for that program.

When you find one, follow the steps in this article to install it in QBO: Install and use apps.

I'd love to know updates about this. I also encourage you to add a comment below in case you have follow-up questions about looking for the app that suits your business. I'm always ready to chime in and lend a hand. Have a good day ahead and keep safe.

How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

This seemingly simple request that would make invoicing customers a little more tailored/personal for ANY business has been an ongoing struggle for going on 3 years now. Although I've worked in the IT industry for over 15 years, I think wherever the table where the current "units" (units, hours, flat rate) for non-inventory items are kept,  you could simply make that accessible for every QBO user for their own database. I really can't imagine that doing so would break the online program. By all means, place a limit as to how many units users can enter if table size is a concern. Hard to believe that Intuit, who essentially pioneered online bookkeeping, can't figure this out when other online programs (Zoho) saw and addressed this need. I hope that Intuit QBO developers can devote some time to address this basic need.

I understand how important it is to be able to have the option to add/change units of measurement for the inventory items, @apresvous,

I know how this would greatly help businesses like yours. I also want to have this feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO) as much as you do.

However, it is still unavailable in QBO. Nonetheless, I highly encourage you to send feedback to our Software Engineers. They give a lot of weight to the ideas made by users, especially in determining how to best improve QuickBooks.

Follow these steps to send feedback:

1. Open your QuickBooks Online account.
2. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
3. Type in your suggestion and click Next.

You may also want to read this article to learn how to create and use a list of products and services: Add inventory products in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you require further assistance with your inventory items in QBO. I'm here to help anytime. Have a good one.

How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

Four years have passed. Many price increases have passed. QB Online is lagging the competition. We will search for something else. All the competitors have the unit of measure in their systems and for much less.

Which one? Please don't mention any app that isn't in the same class as QBO.

How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

I am am majorly disappointed by QBO.  The lack of a UoM (pack size whatever you want to call it) is just the latest in a string of disappointments.  The fact you acknowledge the deficiency in your system and then do NOTHING about it for 3 years is simply inexcusable (and don't use COVID as an excuse - you're a software company).

A "real" ERP has an order trail of Estimate (Quotation) --> Order (Order Confirmation) --> Invoice & Delivery Note --> Credit memo (when required).

QBO is lacking the O/C part completely.

There's NO possibility of a line discount (something which was requested over 3 years ago by other users) and no Unit of Measure (UoM), again requested more than 3 years ago by other users.  We moved from the Desktop version to QBO last year because we were told that the Desktop system was not going to be supported as Intuit/QB was moving to a SaaS model.  Does Intuit interpret SaaS as meaning Sell an awful Solution?

If I move to a more expensive system (and not a Desktop version) does this solve my problem?  So far, I get the impression the answer is a resounding "NO!"

I am really regretting that we purchased a subscription.

As a company, we need a system that meets our requirements (and what I am asking for is basic ERP stuff).  I do not see why I need to buy expensive add on packages to do very basic invoicing.  Lot numbers / serial number and expiry dates, sure - that's a more advanced feature but seriously Intuit - if you can't get the basics right, why should I use your system????

Hi, It's been a long. still, do we have to wait or we should switch to any other package?

We have more than 200 QuickBooks users who are requesting this feature.

Ask your users to use a 3rd party app to integrate with QBO or switch to QB Desktop Premier/Enterprise.

Hi,

Unfortunately, they need VAT tracking and UK version QuickBooks desktop is stopped now.

they don't want to use 2020 version because mail sending option also stopped in QuickBooks 2020 desktop. It always pops up you need to upgrade QuickBooks.

We switched FROM desktop TO online because we were told that support for desktop was being discontinued in the USA.

We were told we would have all the functionality of the desktop system, which obviously isn’t the case.

HOW CAN I TRUST INTUIT TO PROVIDE ME WITH ACCURATE AND RELIABLE INFORMATION?

You can switch back to QB Desktop 2023 US Premier/Enterprise edition. They will discontinue the UK version this year

How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

We've switched FROM a desktop system TO the online system at the recommendation of QB?  Why would I want to spend another 3 months going back - and then find out that they stop supporting Premier or Enterprise?

The more I delve into QB, the more I see it's not intended to be used as a professional system.  Basic lack of functionality on both SALES and PURCHASING (you can't have a line item discount) and inventory doesn't have a Unit of Measurement (UoM - Box, Fee, whatever).

I have worked with various ERP systems in the past 30 years and NEVER seen one as amateurish as this.  Throw in the ineptness of QB technical support and you have system that's only useful if you sell cupcakes or shoes.  It seems all Intuit / QB are really interested in is flashy marketing and grabbing money from their users.

QB has some redeeming factors (bank integration, FedEx/UPS integration) - but this doesn't make up for the lack of very basic features that have not been provided.  I can see that the issues I have asked about were first raised by other QB users back in 2019 - that's pre-COVID, so they can't even use that as an excuse.

Buying a 3rd. party add-on is all well and good - but this does NOT address the issue that QB is severely lacking here.  I'd understand (and accept) that advanced stuff like serial numbers and expiry dates would be an add-on function and I'd happily pay for this feature.  However, what I am looking for is standard inventory and sales/purchasing stuff.

Very PO'ed with QB / Intuit right now.

The QBO system is pathetic.

No line item discount available either....standard basic things.

You don't even get a proper Order Confirmation which in the EU is required to form the legally binding contract between the client and supplier.  But you can send an estimate (or Quotation)...whoopeeee.

How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

I've been using the system now for around 2 weeks - my accounts tam spent 3 months getting everything ready as they were told to convert from DESKTOP to ONLINE by QB/Intuit.  They promised us NO LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY.  What a load of steaming BS that was
.
Found a ton of stuff that just amazes me as lacking.

I've been using ERP systems for >30 years and also wrote software for integration of systems into ERPs going back some 20 years.  I'm with you on the fact that QB could very easily provide the missing bits - but why do that if you can charge more for 3rd. party apps that you just happen to own?

An issue first reported in 2019 (or earlier) and still not addressed.

I doubt very much that QB listens to its clients.

A missing unit of measure in QuickBooks online is not resolved through a "Feature Request"...It is a "Bug Fix" reported years ago.   Plus adding this field is a half day development and test effort.   This is an embarrassment for your company.

How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

Just read through this thread after searching for using multiple units of measure in Quickbooks online and I'm guessing that it's still not an available feature. Our company changed to the QBO from desktop because it wasn't going to be supported anymore or some crap, but I'd rather use that unsupported software than QBO. I just want to be able to buy an item in bulk and sell individually or in packs, but something that simple isn't available in a software program that our company RENTS for over $1000/yr. QB is laughing all the way to the bank.

Stick with QB Desktop Premier or Enterprise. You will need to have a 3rd party inventory management app with UoM feature to integrate with QBO. Do you have another reason switching to QBO?

How do i add/change unit of measurement on QB online?

I understand the importance of having multiple units of measure, tioia.

As of now, this functionality is still unavailable in QuickBooks Online. However, we are continuously working on enhancing our product's features to better meet your requirements. I will keep you informed through this thread if there are any updates regarding the availability of the option.

In the meantime, we can use a third-party application like Fiat-Lux mentioned above. I recommend visiting our QuickBooks Apps Store page to find the program that suits your needs.

Once you're ready to move, I recommend following the steps shared in this article to ensure the process is seamless: Import your QuickBooks Desktop Company File to QuickBooks Online.

Please keep us posted if you have additional questions about the features offered in the online version. I'd be glad to help you out.
