Hello there, @kburkhead.

You can change the date of a transaction. But you have to make sure that the date you change it to is within the reconciliation period. Let me guide you how you can change the date.

  1. In your reconciled transactions, select the bill you want to change the date on.
  2. Change the date of the bill. Note that it should be within the reconciliation period.
  3. On the pop-up, click on Yes.

Once done, manually mark the transaction as Reconciled so it can be saved in QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon, choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Choose the correct account.
  3. From the Action column, select View Register.
  4. Identify the transaction to edit.
  5. In the reconcile status column (indicated by a check mark), click the top line of the transaction to change the status of the transaction to "R".

Changing the date of the bill won't affect the reconciliation as long as the date falls within the reconciliation period.

Also, I suggest seeking help from your accountant about changing the dates of your reconciled transactions. This way, he/she can give you the best advice.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns.

Change the date where?

If you are talking about the payment, you do not change the date of the payment.  If you have the bill entered then you should only use pay bills to record the payment using the current date

I've keyed in the wrong paid date from pay bills and processed it.  Now I want to go back in and change the paid date from October 4 to September 29.  How do I do that?

Good afternoon, @jmorgandlhospice

It's great to see you back in the Community. Allow me to give you some details on this matter.

All you need to do to is go through the Expenses tab and edit the bill payment you'd like. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Expenses tab on the left-hand side.
  2. Ensure you're in the expenses portion of the page.
  3. Locate and double-click on the bill payment.
  4. Edit the info needed.
  5. Press Save and close when done.
